People have been hating on the broadside bombardment part of the theme benefits but I have found it useful. Just like in any pairing, you have to be choosey about what you drop into what.
The most fun I had during my game was Fiona casting befuddle to make a jack walk into counter charge range of 2 Toro. That felt good.

Was just thinking about galleon interaction with ancillary attack.
So with bart if you have hot shot up up are ancillary shots boosted?
With the wording on drag can you still make a melee attack if you land a drag on ancillary attack? Also double powder ration would work on ancillary shot?
So theoretically you could run galleon 10", 1st monkey ancillary shoot 12" and pull someone and get a melee attack?
Then activate bart, swap hit shot to a second galleon.
2nd monkey empowers 2nd galleon.
Second galleon activates, advances, pulls target another 10-12" gets a free melee, buys more melee attacks and if needed you can have 3rd monkey give second galleon a ancillary melee after it has activated.
This could be hilarious.

So if I take three Mariners, with three powder monkeys, under Bart I get 6 Range 15, POW 14 shots a turn, some of them boosted for a three focus investment. Correct? Edit. This is in no way meant to even be good (I haven't read the pirate rules interactions in years), but the fact I can cram ALL this in here and get 4(?!?) free cards is hilarious to me. At the end I was just throwing stuff in to fill the points. Lose the commodore and Dougal for Mutineers and Doc, just go all in on tough/recursion and blast away with Mariners? It sounds fun at the very least. conflictchamber.com/?c6201b_-0Q828k8k8k8OnN8S8TnPnPnP8MnLnLizcaMercenary Army - 74 / 75 points [Theme] The Talion Charter !!! This army contains CID entries. Can't you get 9 Mariner shots a turn from 3 Mariners? 3 via activation, 3 via ancillary attack and 3 via Broadsides? 3 of those will presumably have boosted damage rolls via Hotshot.

5 boosted shots with Hot-Shot if you order your activations correctly. Hot Shot upkept on one Mariner; fire (1). Activate Powder Monkey for Ancillary Attack (2). Activate Bart to hotswap Hot-Shot to another Mariner, cast Broadside (3) - or Broadside before hot swapping-. Activate Mariner 2 and attack (4). Then Ancillary attack from Monkey 2 (5).

but the fact I can cram ALL this in here and get 4(?!?) free cards is hilarious to me. Yeah, the theme actually gives you free models for privateer "models", as such warjacks count as well, so with the Casters warjackpoints you can hit the threshold 4 times.
Which is the least they could do back when the theme was created to make Bart not completely useless in theme, given that he does nothing for infantry and so only wants to spend minimal points on units for screening contesting.

Change the "Bombardment" benefit to
After models are deployed at the start of the game, you can choose up to three points on the table at least 10˝ away from the nearest enemy model. Roll deviation from each of these points, with direction 1 on the deviation template pointing directly toward the rear edge of your opponent's deployment zone. On a roll of 1 or 2, deviate toward direction 1. On a roll of 3 or 4, deviate toward direction 2. On a roll of 5 or 6, it deviate toward direction 6. Center a 4˝ AOE on each point of impact. These AOES are hazards and rough terrain that remain in play for the first round of the game. A model entering or ending its activation in one of these AOEs suffers an unboostable POW 12 blast damage roll XICONX.

I picture me trying to use the bombardment benefit and all of my AoEs drifting on top of each other or buildings or something. ;-)
