I wouldn’t get your hopes up if I were you, folks. Mercenaries need another non-character warjack about as badly as Khador needs another non-character warjack. Vehemently disagree; I'll be livid if we don't get a ranged light. Caine3, Gastonne1/2, and all the Marshals (especially Raluk, whose drive is almost entirely redundant with the current pool) all desperately want this hole in our lineup filled. To respond to some of the other ideas in the thread, for those casters/marshals lacking assault and sprays is a good thing. Prepare yourself for livid-ity, then.

That would only become relevant if the theme specified “Privateer jacks” or something similar, which isn’t going to happen. Might also be considered relevant if the theme provided benefits for "Privateer models" rather than limiting benefits to Privateer warriors or Privateer jacks. So a sort of soft push to take more privateer jacks, rather than the regular merc ones.
I can't see PP producing privateer jacks that more or less replicate existing merc jacks ("a Nomad, but waterproof!"), but the human merc light jack pool is actually still quite limited - one Vanguard chassis, one Talon chassis and one Buccaneer (and Renegades, but only for Magnus). The Vanguard chassis has now been co-opted by the Crucible Guard, but there is definitely room to expand the light jack offering in some way.
If nothing else, getting them in to plastic forms would be a reason to introduce a couple more Lights (and even a Heavy), and historically, they'll only put them in plastic if they can run three off of the cores, just swapping out heads and arms (and not all of those, sometimes) from there.
Whether they have the molds in place to do it is a different story. I hope, but since I am not much of a Privateer collector and mainly want them for Crosse and Marshalling, my breath is not held.

I think the Kodiak/Grolar kit is just the two models, but off the top of my head I can't think of any other plastic kits that are for less than three models. I'm trying to think of what kind of gun they could put on a light that's a little bit different from anything we already have. As mentioned we have Drag and AOEs, and a spray if you count gunbunnies. I do think Drag feels thematic, though it's less useful on a light. It did give me an idea for something a little bit weird though: how about a ROF 2 "harpoon" gun, where you can only target two models with a certain distance of each other, but if both attacks hit (or maybe they both have to damage) the two models cannot move away from each other for one round (or unless they pass a STR check against a target number or something RPG-ish like that). Or how about a high-pressure water cannon? It puts out a spray, models that get hit are pushed directly away and are no longer on fire or corroding (or more likely for practical reasons models within a certain distance of the warjack itself are no longer on fire)?

A Buccaneer/range light privateer jack could fit the criteria.
Alternatively a Talon/Renegade/something else kit would be nice.

I think the Kodiak/Grolar kit is just the two models, but off the top of my head I can't think of any other plastic kits that are for less than three models. They are not very common, at least (and I'm not including the Colossals in this since no one can control three different Colossals).
Either way, the molds have to pay for themselves, so having one mold for the core of three makes logistical sense.

I wouldn't be in a rush to include the Gunbunnies, because only the Rhulics can take them, and it would be like not making the Mule because Cygnar already has the Defender. They can't be controlled by the same people at the same time, so it's not worth worrying about.
The important part is to keep it in theme, and while I had fun building up my "swabby", I could easily see it restricted to just its Spray form (the name of the gun is the Spanish word for the Swivel Gun, I think). However, the water cannon would be fun for all the reasons you mentioned, and it would fit in theme as the fireman of the seas. Even putting the boarding axe on it would make sense as the axe's descendant is the Fire Axe and it was used for that purpose when not used for more offensive purposes. One could even allow it to have two forms: one to push, one to "cleanse".
The dual harpoon gun sounds fun, too. Even more fun if it Pulled them together.
