Well, considering that they on one hand removed the Contracts and Alliances, but then started doubling down on them with the Themes, and I am presenting the silly concepts?

I was just taking the silly to its next logical step.
Crazy insane and looney would be to set up Cygnar with their own version of Disciples of Agony.

See, if Leto was a warcaster model, that would actually make more sense to me than mixing my Llaelese resistance with death worshiping swamp gators.

But the gators aren't allowed in Llaelese Resistance...

Ashlynn doesn't stop being Llaelese out of theme. It would make no sense for them to fight on the same side.

Ashlynn doesn't stop being Llaelese out of theme. It would make no sense for them to fight on the same side. And Ashlynn doesn't always work directly for the efforts of the Resistance, but often takes side jobs to help pay for her side of the Resistance.
It would make sense if she offered them the bodies of the fallen enemies for food, or the weapons they captured from the enemy, or some other payment. Having some tough amphibious irregular troops is very helpful in certain situations, and the gators wouldn't make the same demands that a Steelhead corps would likely demand.

That's mental gymnastics to make it fit, nothing supported by fluff in any way. I'm all for being creative, but if it is that much of a stretch, it is difficult from a developer perspective, and a bad player experience, it just doesn't seem even mildly viable.

I don't see the need for gymnastics or stretching that much. Those are all aspects of the lore in the game for the characters involved.
Maybe its because my first tabletop game was Battletech, and Merc units there could be facing each other one year, and then supporting each other the next according to the vagaries of the House/planet contracts.
The only reason to not seriously consider it is the fact that they're pushing everything in to Themes, which makes it completely unnecessary. If Themes became no longer as "required", that would lend more weight, possibly. Of course, I honestly think that they should lock down the sub-factioning of the Mercs like they did the Minions just so it is more clear to incoming players.

I love your avatar shoe! We already have acess to a few minions. I have been working on a pure steelheads list since mkIII came out man. I think as a subfaction they are much better with the addition of the arcanist. Problem comes in with the merc tax. as a fan of the posse, I hate that I have to run them in theme where pretty much maelock is the way. I liked running them with barney and gator toss flying circus was my jam in MKII:(. I refuse to call them "wrastlers" now the card shoud just say "blackhide." LUCHA! So you think doing this is horrible, even when there would be zero changes in what you can take in the Themes? The army would be marked by who the Warcaster/Warlock is, and run from there. this would be bad for the same reason the collapse of blindwater into pigs was bad. minions did it and the units all took nerfs for "design space." if anything I think things like ceph and dorfs should get their own faction with partisans. forgive my rubbist posting format, I am still getting used to this forum's workings.
