Now, there are a few Themes out there which are limited in their Battlegroup Controllers (Warcaster/Warlock), but they aren't a common occurrence outside of Mercenaries (who don't have a single Theme that is all-inclusive). So two questions I have for the community:
Should the Themes be more exclusive in their Warcasters and Warlocks, or should those Themes which are exclusive become more inclusive?
Going on from there, if PP were to go ahead and limit your Warcasters and Warlocks according to Theme, where would you draw the line keeping in mind their fluff, such as Operating Theater and Disciples of Agony?

You should be able to take any model in any theme.

really I think there should be a thing were Casters can bring units that fit with them in themes. For example Tristan Durant being able to take either an exemplar unit, or a flame guard units. Since Godless showed he normally has those 2 groups in his forces.

I wish for the idea of mk2 theme to return. Maybe they were worse in their execution, but the principle with which they were designed just clicks better with me, gradually restricting yourself more while gaining bonusses, and balancing that for a specific caster.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I wish themes were a little more exclusive. I don't think every warlock should be in every theme, but I also don't think warlocks should be limited to a single theme. Maybe limit each warlock to 2-3 themes in each faction. Perhaps particular warlocks would be accessible in every theme. Limited release factions should probably be able to use all their warlocks in both themes. I also think there should actually be models that do not get to belong in ANY theme and that "free models" ought to be gotten rid of as theme benefits. Love the added benefits and rules for playing in theme, but keeping certain choices unique to vanilla factions and not being forced to play the game 8-20 points down would help keep vanilla factions as selectively viable options.
I quite like themes, but I do wish vanilla factions were not outright replaced by themes. Though if forced to pick I do prefer the way things work now in Mk3 than they did in Mk2.

It’s probably an unpopular viewpoint but I liked the rock, paper, scissors aspect of MKII. This new Swiss Army approach is good for selling a bunch of models but uninteresting because it seems like if you wait long enough and complain loud enough there will be a model that fills the void. I think there should be solvable voids in each faction but not in every list. The new models seem to address all of the major weaknesses of their factions.

PP still hasn't even put every model into a theme yet and you want to start limiting them? No thanks.

They can be taken if their bonded Warcaster/Lock is in the Theme. So, technically any Theme you can find Gunnbjornn, Dozer & Smigg can be found as well.
The exceptions to that (Character 'Jacks without a Bond like the Avatar of Menoth), were usually written in before that previous adjustment was made.

That's a B.S. copout, since some of them, like Mulg the Ancient, are included in themes regardless of their bonded caster.

That's a B.S. copout, since some of them, like Mulg the Ancient, are included in themes regardless of their bonded caster. Before CID or after? I don't find it that much of a copout when they become so much better with the bond, or in Despoiler's case, their bond-mate isn't as hamstringed for being out of a specific Theme. Even less so when story guides the Themes' construction as much as anything else. Yes, some Bonded Beasts and Jack's are dang good without the Bond, Skorne has a couple good examples of this, but keeping that association in place actually provides that balance point of holding the good ones back, at least initially. To be fair, the Themes where the free points are tallied up by Jacks and Beasts should not have the Characters restricted from them, but that's just my opinion. And we are seeing more Characters added as CID progresses. But this thread is more about their Controllers than the controlled, so let's try to focus on that.
