Hello all, I am trying to move into a more competitive mode and I have a team tournament coming up in a few months, and I have never made a thoughtful pairing. I have most of the faction and I have been messing around with lists, but when people ask what I am wanting to accomplish with the list, I have no idea.
What casters play well into the new meta boogeymen such as double judicator, tough/no knockdown, and def skew? I have some time so I am cool with trying out anything to practice. I tried out a Jaga Jaga list last night which helps the high def skew with s&p, but I need a pairing. Also, I only have 1 unit of posse so Maelok spam is out.
Thanks for your help! Maybe I’ll see you at a convention soon and you can teach me by kicking my butt in person!!

Might be easier to start with asking. What do you own?

I own most of the faction but only one unit of posse. All casters, at least 2 if every beast, most solos, all the lessers, both battle engines and 2 units of croaks, brigands, Valkyries and slaughter housers. One unit of posse, ambushers, boomhowlers and nyss.
Most pairings I’ve seen are maelok posse spam and Rask, jaga or Arkadius. Since I only have one unit of posse, I was wondering who would cover maelok’s matchups instead. Also, what are maelok’s match ups?
Thanks for letting me pick your brain!

To be honest, run what you know best.
Experience > list is how it works.
And iremember, there is always the death clock as a win condition. The "darker" your horse is, the more important death clock becomes. I've seen experienced players struggling with their clock when they didn't exactly know what to do against a certain list.
The harder an opponent tries to win, the more advantageous a rather uncommon list is.
One last advice: count on being the second player. That way you can neglect all tactics that are needed as the first player. Just keep it as easy as possible.

What about Rask and all the lessers in will work for food?
The way I see it Jaga with double croaks doesn’t want to be alpha’d off the table and Rask can take those match ups because of his feat. You could potentially use arkadius instead if you want to try out alpha’ing your opponent, but a Rask list seems more straight forward to run (less punishing on lack of practice with the list).

Rask sounds good! What does he like to see across the table? Arm skew? All infantry? I’m not good with picking match ups and that’s what I need the most help with. Or does that come down to experience will tell me?

Rask lists are usually pretty good at cracking armour. Aside from that there is some room to tweak the list to the direction you want.
As an example, here are some links to Gaston’s thread (which I shamelessly stole from somewhere else he posted) where he is using a Rask list specifically tailored to be stronger against medium base lists (primal terrors, man o wars, etc...)
Rask (WWFF) vs. Vlad (Armored Corps) lormahordes.freeforums.net/post/106822/thread
Rask (WWFF) vs. Sorscha (Armored Corps) lormahordes.freeforums.net/post/106823/thread

Honestly my approach has been to get one core list that I am pretty experienced with so I have an idea of what it doesn’t want to face on the other side of the board. I try to tailor my second list for those specific matchups.
