So over the past week I've played my 5th 6th and 7th games with OW2.
As some of you may know the CID that contained a few doom reaver buffs came out on Tuesday, which was good for me, but not so good for everyone around me (here comes the doom!)
For these games I ran this list.
[Old Witch 2] Zevanna Agha, the Fate Keeper [+27]
- Marauder [11]
- Ruin [17]
Koldun Lord [0(4)]
Koldun Lord [0(4)]
Saxon Orrik [4]
Alexia Ciannor & the Risen [10]
Doom Reaver Swordsmen [10]
Doom Reaver Swordsmen [10]
Doom Reaver Swordsmen [10]
Doom Reaver Swordsmen [10]
Doom Reaver Swordsmen [10]
Doom Reaver Swordsmen [10]
Greylord Ternion [0(7)]
It played into Kallus2 Primal Terrors, Makeda3 with double turtles, Terminus in Ghost Fleet and finally Harbinger EI with a Judicator. And now I shall share what I learned.
Firstly, the list is a bit hard on clock. Especially for someone like me who does not normally run a large amount of infantry (normally I run BG heavy or smaller armies like Armoured Corps) and postioning is a little bit hard. I managed to win into Kallus2 after a large attrition game that caused us both to lose most of our armies. (Kallus had to engage the left circular zone on standoff, Ruin cleared a path and then 4 doom reavers got into Kallus and he had no beasts to transfer too. In addition I also clocked myself into Harby (the game was already on the way out due to Harby being able to get the Exemplar solo into my zone, where it doesn't die until my own turn. and thus being ahead on scenario points as the game entered the last few turns). Even if I had clocked back, my opponent could have won that turn anyway.
Secondly, it can also be hard to find a good position for all the reavers, at least for me, again not used to large model counts. I fatally left a model in charge range of Makeda3, and she killed at least 15 Doom Reavers on the way to the Old Witch, also killing the Koldun which then allowed a Turtle to kill the witch with his guns. And in the game against Harby, I left a load of models base to base with my objective for some reason. Again with disastrous results (losing several more reavers than I had too.) And as for Terminus.... well I just forgot to move the OW when I activated her because I was tired.
So now I'm going to give you my thoughts on theWolves Cornucopia CID and my list in general and what I learnt.
This last weekend I was invited to the English WTC Invitational event. The top two players get automatic qualification to the English team. Except I'm not eligible, so I brought along OW2 in wolves (see above) and a Vlad2 wolves list as well (I swapped a unit of doom reavers for a unit of Greylord outriders.) Vlad managed to win both of his games (against trolls he survived a last ditch assassination from Kolgrimma before she ate a load of doom reavers) and he managed to clock a Baldur1 Tharn list. Old Witch was dropped into Makeda3 with a bunch of beasts and double turtles. And was doing very well until I basically made a massive rookie error (in my defence, I was awake from 2:30AM in order to travel the few hundred miles to the event) by moving a single reaver too far forward and allowing Makeda to get to my doom reavers under feat with a full stack of Fury, after blowing her focus on the Witch at the back, Makeda also managed to kill the Koldun lord, and then a turtle was able to trample and kill her with his guns. The next day she was dropped into Terminus Ghost Fleet, and I was doing well (4-0 up on Mirage at the time of the assassination.) but I failed to move the witch the two inches away from Terminus to escape a charge the turn after his feat and the Witch died to that as well.)
My last game was interesting and shows how good OW2 reavers actually is into a Judicator. We both thought the game was going to be a wash, with nothing but the charred corpses of doom reavers lining the ground. But between the Koldun lords and the Witch, the Judicator was barely able to fire. Again a few positioning errors let more doom reavers die than needed too. And eventually the game was lost on clock, but I also would have lost on scenario anyway.
But I repeatedly found that I needed the ability to remove healing. Things like rapid healing no knockdown Tharn, Harby, Trolls and Terminus and Primal Terrors all in the space of six games.
So next time around, I'll try this instead.
[Old Witch 2] Zevanna Agha, the Fate Keeper [+27]
- Marauder [11]
- Ruin [17]
Greylord Forge Seer [0(4)]
Koldun Lord [0(4)]
Koldun Lord [4]
Saxon Orrik [4]
Alexia Ciannor & the Risen [10]
Doom Reaver Swordsmen [10]
- Greylord Escort [3]
Doom Reaver Swordsmen [10]
- Greylord Escort [3]
Doom Reaver Swordsmen [10]
Doom Reaver Swordsmen [10]
Doom Reaver Swordsmen [10]
Greylord Ternion [0(7)]
The two escorts allow me to produce up to 4 anti healing bubbles. Combine this with the Old Witch's abilities to lower armour and defence, they seem like a very potent mix. I do lose a unit of doom reavers, dropping down to 5 units. But I believe that these are for the best. That's all for now, if anyone has any questions then go and ask ahead.
