If any of you guys are playing in Champions format events, what are your thoughts on the new roster? Specifically, how are you going to approach building a pairing in Trollbloods for this? lormahordes.freeforums.net/thread/8508/new-adr-season-9Most of the factions, including us, have a very powerful roster. The simplest explanation that fits this fact is that they did that for the sake of the Iron Gauntlet at Lock & Load. That makes problems for every other Champions event in Season 9, but that's not what I want to discuss here, rather how to work with what we have in order to deal with the things we will have to face.

So I'm currently on the Bearka2 train after being outspoken and probably wrong on this forum about it in SotN about a month ago.
I think you should go either Borka2 or Kolgrima in SotN and after watching how well Bearka performed into Cru Guard I'm tempted to go with him. He shuts down basically every jack/beast spam list in the meta and considering people only have 2 lists that's most of them.
Then you're kind of left with interesting choices. Grissel2, Kolgrima and Grim1 are all excellent in Band of Heroes.
The question is do you want to run Kolgrima in BoH with champs and Skaldi as mentioned in the other thread. Maybe go with Jaden's List from six months ago with normal stone, Long riders, champs etc.
I used to play Grissel2 in BoH for most of 2017 and it was excellent. I think whatever you go for you want a MK in the BoH list so it can combat medium based infantry.
I think I would go:
Borka2 (SotN) - Runebearer - Earthborn - Mauler - Pyre Fell Caller Hero Eilish Max Stone + NE Min Champions + Skaldi Bears!!! Min Longriders Fire Eaters Fire Eaters
And
Grim 1 (BoH) - Runebearer - Mountain king - Swamp Troll Fell Caller Hero Stone Scribe Chronicler Max Stone + SE Min Longriders Max Fennblades + UA Max Champions
Not 100% sure on this list but it doesn't look awful.

I think Borka2 SotN + Kolgrima BoH or Kolgrima SotN + Grissel2 BoH are best pairings. But Grim1 on BoH is not bad and Grissel2 can be played on SotN as well.

I mike the thought of a Sotn+boh pairing with Borka2 and Kolgrimma.
I could be inclined to try a POD list with Borka, but Ive tried that before and found it to be fifficult on scenario with ghe small commandbubble of borka2. But i want to put my 2 brawlers on the table, so why not at least try.

Grissel 2's best synergies are with the Bomber and Champions. I am looking at a list with 2x max units and a Champ Hero as a strong possibility. Pairing this with Chris Dancocks's Borka 2 will be the first thing I try. conflictchamber.com/#c7101b_-0a7e0j0j0ijq6G6M6O0l0miTiTbK0b0cTrollbloods Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] Band of Heroes [Grissel 2] Grissel Bloodsong, Marshal of the Kriels [+27] - Troll Bouncer [9] - Troll Bouncer [9] - Troll Impaler [11] - Trollkin Runebearer [0(5)] Fell Caller Hero [0(5)] Stone Scribe Chronicler [4] Trollkin Champion Hero [0(5)] Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes (max) [9] - Stone Scribe Elder [3] Trollkin Champions (max) [16] Trollkin Champions (max) [16] - Skaldi Bonehammer [5] Trollkin Fennblades (max) [15] - Trollkin Fennblade Officer & Drummer [5]

That's what has tripped me up, actually. I don't see how to build Kolgrima in Band that wouldn't leave me constantly wishing I could just put her in Storm too. Her ability to deliver stuff via could wall is always good but her synergies are much better overall in SOTN. I also still don't play her well. I play Grim much better, and I'd love to pair him with Borka 2, but I actually don't want to put him in Band either. Though I do think that Grim can run just about anything pretty well, I think that he'd much rather have the Bears to corral opponents into his feat. (Or Mulg-node, or guns to focus fire on his feat turn...) His feat is great against anything but guns, but Borka can handle any of those other than Sloan, and maybe that too. So I'm looking at what we need to cover between the two lists and themes. I do not want to build to deal with Circle only to wind up losing to Khador, but it seems to me that there is way too much to cover with any specificity, but I do see a couple of noteworthy points. Guns: Gearhart's gun line is so oppressive that I don't think anyone can beat it without some way to shut down shooting entirely, at least for one turn. Then there are Trenchers in both Gravediggers and Llael, Ossyan, Orion and Sloan... I just think that guns are a much bigger problem than they were in the last two seasons. This really does require special attention, but let's face it, we were going to play either Borka 2 or Kolgrima anyway. Dudespam: I keep expecting this to make a comeback and if anything does that it will be Doom Reavers. It's not just them, though; Hammer Strike gives Forge Guard Tough and Trenchers already have it. Both Menite themes are able to put a lot of bodies on the board. We don't have Banes to deal with but there are Dread Rots, Immortals, and Sentinels. The other warlocks on our roster don't really care if they are outnumbered, but Borka 2 does. I am really starting to think that the strongest pairing we can make in this context is actually Kolgrima in Storm of the North and Grissel 2 in Band of Heroes, but that depends on some factors of which I am uncertain. I need to play danks Borka 2 list more to see how well it copes with the likes of Doom Reavers, see if Grim's feat is worth working around his suboptimal placement in Band, and get more practice with Kolgrima.

Where would you drop bearka these days ? 1) Any gun line that can't deal with his feat. Sloan just ignores it. Orion has Mage Sight, but that can be mitigated somewhat by spreading out. 2x TEP churn out a ton of sprays though. 2) Any jack spam or beast brick other than Sloan. Even when warbeasts are immune to cold, you can jam them with Raiders and one-round them with Bears. 3) If there's a ton of rough terrain on the table. Especially in SOTN, his lists tend to be mostly Pathfinder. For that matter, if there are bottlenecks that are easier to navigate with Ambush and AD making more breathing room. 4) If the scenario requires more spreading out than Band can handle.

Pick 2. Build your lists. Go to town. This roster is so good as to be almost uninteresting.

I'm always a little concerned with a pairing that relies on units for both pairs. I feel like it is susceptible to the same kind of weaknesses (both in control and types of attacks it dies against). Is that a valid concern that people have found? I can't decide if that's an actual table top worry or my false dojo concerns.

We have to run units in both lists anyway, especially in Champions because the two themes are Band and SoTN. Few factions have a battlegroup theme this time. Warbeasts are susceptible to most of the same control attacks as units plus any that affect a single target. They resist hazards better and they can shake KD etc but are worse against Telekinesis and such. For the most part, a beast brick is more vulnerable to control lists. As for attack types, I can see that. A full unit of Scattergunners is much better against Doom Reavers than Juggernauts. It's just that many units like Trollkin Champions are good against both other units and jacks/beasts.
