Trolls really like to brick up because of the stone, and the issue with the Mauler (and the faction's reliance on rage in general) make it difficult for PoD lists to really hold their own. I've had some luck with Doomie2, but that's mostly been due to his incredible alpha potential. Other casters I've tried just can't do enough offensively or defensively to give a PoD list enough edge to succeed.

That is true, altough Ragnor has Pulverizer so he can sacrifice the Mauler if he needs to. With every other caster i get increadibly scared of losing Rage, aka any Damage potential.
I think we need a good solution to camp a flanking flag (Incoporeal solos) and to block another Zone (Bomber, keeps being relevant because of ranged output) while the stone and Caster Brick walks trough the other zone.
The more we discuss this, the more I think that a Blitzer is actually not even the worst Beast to have here. He can just do his thing and then on the side reduce the infantry piece by piece. Boost the shot if you need to kill a solo.
There should be nice solution out there for PoD
What are your thoughts about casters? What Minions give us good solutions?

snoozer I think you're looking mainly for casters who can help to simply keep the expensive warbeasts alive. So Ragnor, Gunny, Grim 1, or Doomy 3, or arguably Jarl. Grissel 2 doesn't cut it for that anymore, unfortunately. There's more than enough armor cracking in the meta to overwhelm Unyielding. Doomy 2 gets around this by extending threat range to get the alpha strike. We had discussed Minion units in POD recently. It looks like our best options are either Bog Trogs or Valkyries for fighting, or Bone Grinders, Swamp Gobbers, or Lynus & Edrea for utility. Brigands are pretty good but a minimum unit with Warlord is 13 points. If Boomhowler were Partisan then 11 points for the minimum unit might be worthwhile. I totally forgot then about the Gatorman Bokor and Swamp Shamblers. That could, at least theoretically, make a big difference for 10 points.

Ragnor might not mind running them, as they wouldn't benefit much from his feat anyway, but he can put Pulverizer on the Bokor if need be. conflictchamber.com/#c7201b_-0bfLjn9Djp7h0h0jjq2Q7d6RjO0l0mTrollbloods Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] The Power of Dhunia [Ragnor 1] Ragnor Skysplitter, the Runemaster [+30] - Dire Troll Brawler [16] - Dire Troll Mauler [15] - Mulg the Ancient [22] - Storm Troll [9] - Troll Axer [10] - Troll Bouncer [9] - Trollkin Runebearer [0(5)] Feralgeist [2] Janissa Stonetide [0(4)] Troll Whelps [0(4)] Gatorman Bokor & Bog Trog Swamp Shamblers [10] Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes (max) [9] - Stone Scribe Elder [3]

When you compare PoD with other beasts/jacks theme, there is one thing that you immediatly see : lack of cheap infantry clearing.
No exhaustive list : Cygnar heavy metal : electro leaps and shooting everywherre Cryx : 9 heavies resilient heavies Menoth : they don't play their jacks list anymore, but judicators helps a lot now Retribution : every heavies shoot. Mercs : lots of cheap heavies and infantry (and access to solos like Orin) Orboros : the sentry stones Skorne : the derp turtle Everblight : the throne Minions : overtake on beasts and Dalia Grymkin : really hard brick with high scenario presence thanks to dreamer and
So now, what trolls have ? The storm troll for leaps and perhaps the moutain king but that's it. So against lots of infantry (30+) it's hard to do anything. Also we lack scenario presence.
Personnally I would play Kolgrimma with 2 earthborns, mauler, mulg, axer, a max northkin stone and croak raiders. I would help against infantry with her sprays, curse fate and the croak shooting stuff. And it could serve as a tarpit/contesting unit.

Have people tried more lights and/or no stone? I was looking at them again last night with a focus on trying to understand what they 'want' to do.
For instance, a night troll hiding off behind a piece of terrain might be effective.
Is there a way to get value out of the Impaler's Set Defense/Arm 17?
What about an Axer with Fortune as an infantry sweeper?
What kind of Jack's can a Slag Troll consistently kill? What if I can get it a buff?
What made Calandra in elemental trolls so good in Mk2? Is there a way to apply those same principles now?
Not that I have answers and sadly not nearly enough time to try theories with all of my work travel, but maybe you folks have actual table time.

mhean And then let's say you pair it with Kriel Company to handle swarms of single-wound infantry, then what do you do about multi-wound units with ARM 18+? Really, since SOTN deals with both ARM and numbers just fine, there's not much reason to not run it for both lists. At least we have that to fall back on, but still, we have one good theme, two that are only rarely even playable, and Band has only one compelling reason to run it over Storm, and that is only if we happen to need the RFP at the time.
