If we did get a new theme, what do you think it could be? Or what might you like to see?
I guess the first thing that comes to mind is some riff on Elemental Evolution, even if I was never so invested in it.
What I really want to see though is one that encourages lists that are about 50/50 units and beasts. That has been done in some interesting ways in other factions so far.

I've been advocating for awhile to make Kriel Company give freebies for every 25 (or whatever number is balanced) points of models with ranged weapons (allowing all beasts but only counting the ranged ones towards points). Make one theme bonus effect beasts (and mabye BEs) and the other warrior models and now you have a theme that is flexible and encourages the use of a variety of models. A KC revamp also seems like the perfect time to revisit the light beast animi. As far as new themes go I could easily see another element chosen. I see the trolls and kind of evolving to fit whatever environment they are in so with the new location of the kriels you could see a jungle motif (poison/corrosion stuff) or a desert motif (fire stuff).

...would be an excuse for some 1 point Pyg solos.

Considering only Cygnar really have a heavy amount of lightning right now whereas all the other elements are much more spread out I think a lightning based theme could be very cool. I think personally I'd lean more towards the poison/corrosion/jungle theme though since they're in Alchiere now.

I like to see a wilderness theme. Something expanding on the Grims, Scouts, Swamp Trolls, Skinners, Fennblades etc

Are there trolls in the Stormlands? I once had an idea for a dire troll version of the Storm Troll called the Thunder Troll. Maybe there's a small kriel driven out by the Skorne? Or same idea, but Cryx- maybe some of the Trollkin escaped the blight.

I'd love to see an EE redux that lets you only take lights (maybe Earthborn and GK too as they're kinda elemental?) but everything has a free animus.

Gun rng 10 rof 1 aoe 3 pow 14 Disruption Special: makes a aoe hazard for one round. ×2 melee rng 1 pow 4 p+s16 Animi: electric cloak: +2 arm whe. Hit model attacking takes pow 10 electric damage roll. Snacking Points: ? And its odd but i just figured out naming scheme behind the dire troll character models.

The selection of freebies is pretty weak, so I don't see that being a problem. I suppose the beasts could gain Black Penny, but then the theme benefits have stacked up pretty high.

I'm all for splitting Kriel Company in to two distinguished themes. As of now, there's really very little holding Kriel Company together thematically other than guns.
Rather than another CID cycle that brings 6-8 new models for a single theme, I'd rather see Kriel Company and, say, Thornwood Irregulars established. Kriel Company gets Sluggers, Scattergunners, Sons of Bragg, Pygs, Weapon Crews, and battle engines. Thornwood Irregulars maybe just gets a blanket "Small and medium-based warrior models with Pathfinder" so they get Highwaymen, Scouts, Raiders, Fire Eaters, and Pygs.
From there, you give 3-4 releases to each theme to help differentiate them and fill a few holes in list-building. I'd love to see Boomhowlers get a rework to really become the frontline for Kriel Company, and for a few options in each that make cracking armor less of a struggle (but not a breeze).

Yes! Would love to see Kriel Company be much tighter thematically. Get rid of the Northkin stuff and Highwaymen etc.
Limiting it could allow for much better benefits. Maybe something extreme like adding gang to units or beasts. Ghost Fleet is a great example of a limited theme with good benefits to compensate for a low variety of options.
I feel Thornwood or Glimmerwood would be great thematics worth exploring.

If 4 freebies is a problem then make it 30 points per or (and this is mindblowing I know) they could have some granualarity and make it 28 points. This way though I get to make the choice, do I want a Mauler and Stone but I lose out on a freebie, or focus on ranged and maximize the free points. Whatever balances it, but give me options and good options not "technically I can take regular Long Gunners in Heavy Metal but they suck AND don't count for free points" options. I mean same thing for PoD really, figure out some way to include Runeshapers, right now they are in the theme but not in a way that doesn't punish you for taking them. That or adjust their cost such that they are worth taking. Whatever, just fix it

I can see making Runeshapers count toward freebies in POD, but then they probably would have to change their theme benefit from FA:U to Advance Deployment. Granted, I would much prefer that anyway.

It's funny, because on reddit there is a convo aboug themes being too restrictive and trolls are saying restrictions are cool, just make them meaningful.
The kriel company split is an amazing idea, both functionally and thematically. After reading that one, it's all I can pretty much think about.
