Considering that it was a NQ release we'll likely actually see the Exemplar book coming up next after the trencher, black fleet and troll books. Give it two months and see if exemplars are in CID. On the other hand it could be just as likely that our theme book will be focused on Zealotry since we don't have that theme covered yet. So zealots, deliverers and what ever new stuff they want to toss in. I'm hoping for scrutator models and units and some zealot buffing solos. I would love a big zealot/deliverer/ idrian theme. Running that with Harby and testament would be thematic and awesome. Would be nice to get some more "militia" models. Any excuse to run lots of deliverers and zealots is going to make me happy.

Me too. Thing is there's so much potential for cool theme forces in every faction that I hope they don't spend too much time revisiting old ones (caveat being unless they're really brokenly powerful *cough* jaws of the wolf *cough* *cough*)

Again, my view has always been that we're getting new models that will go with the Exemplar theme that will give us more options. The new Primecast just reinforced that, given that they're aiming to make theme forces akin to sub-factions and are not adverse to making redundant models (ie: Cygnar long gunners vs. cygnar trencher long gunners) that can be taken in-theme. 'sides, from what I've seen players are leveraging the theme force to great effect. The thing is, I don't want to be forced to only play the Exemplar theme to make Exemplar's, who aren't Knights Exemplar, viable. I would like them to be viable both in and out of theme, as they should be. Themes should just be an optional thing that isn't required to make a unit work. The theme is usable as it is, but it's currently nothing more than "get 3 free UAs". Which isn't exciting. I was hoping this would be our Winter Guard theme force.

So while I recognize this is off topic, is this theme any sort of reflection of an overall dissatisfaction with the Protectorate? Or just being displeased with this on its own?

So while I recognize this is off topic, is this theme any sort of reflection of an overall dissatisfaction with the Protectorate? Or just being displeased with this on its own? Kinda, yeah. I posted a similar thing in week 2 of the BE CID. Early CID VOJ, this theme, guardians theme, PP's value placed on battle driven, their ideas with fuel cache for a while, the very existence of Horgle2, Kallus, and that one legion beast, all in the last 6 months....it all just kinda falls into place if you simply take the assumption that PP simply doesn't think Menoth has to feel special or unique in any way.
Is that actually the office sentiment around there? Probably not. But results speak when PP doesn't, and the results look like the following conversation took place:
A: "So, exemplar theme. Infantry theme means a breakpoint of 20 for free solos. Gravus allowed to be free?" B: "Nah, he's 9 points and really strong." A: "Fine. Menoth has low move speeds, so give 'em a 2 inch for the generic benefit slot. What's, like, really Menothey for the special bonus?" B: "They hate spells. Blessed should work." A: "Half the exemplars have that already, stick it on the jacks. OK, trencher time! Man, Look at this bunker idea!"

So while I recognize this is off topic, is this theme any sort of reflection of an overall dissatisfaction with the Protectorate? Or just being displeased with this on its own? For me I am currently very happy with the faction (outside of a few cases) and honestly Creators might and Guardians has some game (guardians needs its jack benefit looked at though) I just really think this theme was a flop and I am disappointing that it will not be looked at for a while longer. Luckily we still have good combinations out of theme that work great and a really good stable of casters and units to choose from. I love the diversity in faction compared to say Circle of orboros of trolls. Provengreil: I hate to say it but the more I see these themes and new releases the more it reminds me of games workshop. Models that are new or pricey are actually fantastic options where older models tend to stay in the medium to low category. The battle engine CID was solely done so they could sell more Battle engines and the shift to heavies in MK3 was so they would sell a bunch of jacks. The exemplar theme already had its models released and in circulation, The new trencher theme however, gets a shiny new Unit, solo, and Huge based Contraption. Its all for the sake of making money. I only hope that CID and the community keep the game from devolving into what 40K and age of skubmar have become.

No kidding.....just a scant couple years ago I jumped ship on GW, shortly after their huge bases became the auto-win machines. I've been calling quite loudly whenever appropriate to caution people against allowing the mounting immunities and "do more things at once" mentalities of the huge bases. No one's listening.

I don't mind huge bases as much in Warmachine because there are distinct disadvantages to being a huge base that don't really come into effect until you play them Mostly involving Maneuverability and Vulnerability. But we are getting off topic we should start something on this in the general thread

I will say I disagree on that and I think its just a case of "PP is screwy for releases for factions". Khadors oldest options are pretty much still their best. Just so you know "Make a better option for something most people don't use" is pretty much the same as "Make more money" as an end result. Im not saying things can't become OP or the like. Not saying PP isn't immune to the siren call of shitty buisness practices. But Warjacks are actually a cheaper sell then Units you know? 16 Points of jacks are like 35 bucks, and about 60 bucks for infantry.

The reason I ask about happiness levels is because I played Protectorate since 2007, and while I've tried them in mk3, it feels like so much was lost and there really is no appeal in the faction atm so I'm currently selling some of my models. (if interested feel free to PM me for what I have) but honestly I would like to get back into it, I want to like the army it's just so... meh to me atm.

The Protectorate ideal had to change come Mk3. I'm the exact opposite- I was close to throwing in the towel by the tail end of Mk2 and Mk3 reinvigorated me so much I'm now all in and jumping in head first into the community.
