I got to say, I am going to miss NQ Prime, I can’t wait to see its digital replacement for content. I know PP is innovative and agile, so I know they will come up with something. Honestly NQ Prime was the best run of NQ ever and I still find myself exploring the different scenarios and having a great time. NQ Prime has also opened my eyes to a new revelation of sorts.
Now is the best time to be playing Warmachine….ever.
In a day if find myself playing 50pt steamrollers, multiple Company of Iron games, and even Unbound. There are other games that say there are 3 ways to play but it pales into comparison with the current game state of Warmachine.
CoI games are narrative, fun, short, and the mechanics make your feel like you are watching a tight knit skirmish unfold.
The 50-75pt has the standard steamroller competitive tightness PP is renowned for but have you plated the narrative scenarios for such games in NQ Prime. Asymmetric and harrowing these games are narrative but flexible and open to any faction.
And Unbound…for those of us who tried some of those in MKII, the MKIII version is substantive improvement. For games of their size, they project the grand army theme, but the games are fluid and fast.
Take in the mini-games and campaigns have a new twist. Assaulting a structure tile? Unbound games. Moving to an adjacent enemy tile? 50-75pt SR or narrative scenario. Sending an expedition to an unoccupied Artifact, Resource, or City/Base tile? Arcanists, CoI, and snipers minigames and game. Trying to take over an enemy Water tile? Privateer rules.
I don’t know what will replace NQ, but we have the tools so let’s have some great games for the rest of 2018 and 2019 and the meantime.

The different game modes you mentioned, namely Unbound and campaigns, were those alternatives provided in some issues of NQ? I'm definitely interested by any information you could provide!

The different game modes you mentioned, namely Unbound and campaigns, were those alternatives provided in some issues of NQ? I'm definitely interested by any information you could provide! The current iteration of Unbound appeared in No Quarter Prime #2. To my knowledge, I have played a significant percentage of all the games of Unbound ever played. I personally find the current version’s list building rules a little too restrictive compared to the MK II iteration. I have made a few tweaks to the army construction rules that make it feel a lot less constrictive and a lot more rewarding for people with giant model collections and people willing to play a single theme for their entire army. The scenarios are pretty good, though for the life of me I can’t wrap my head around Wildfire or Treasure Hunt. Maybe I’m just cranky in my old (Warmachine) age, but I don’t think Wildfire works mechanically. It’s a scenario that rewards running away from your opponent and HEAVILY biases the game in favor of models with Immunity: Fire. But! Honestly! Unbound is my absolute favorite way to play Warmachine! There’s nothing like piloting a 300-point army to victory, crushing your opponent underneath your metal tread. (I’ll try to drop back in later and link to a few photos...) Also: the more time and effort you put into building awesome purpose-built terrain for the scenario, and the more time you devote toward running a fully-painted army, the more rewarding you will find a game of Unbound. It is a sight to see!

I went through my collection and snapped up anything that was missing or damaged. I have little to no interest in any version of it that will be online currently. I'm happy to be surprised with some sort of great content/interface though.

And speaking of those Unbound photos I promised: So! You wanna see what 300 points of Jaws of the Wolf looks like on the No Man's Land Unbound scenario? This: And this: And this: By the way: you know what's the most fun thing in the world? When Khador fires like 20 AOEs each turn and every single one deviates perfectly into the center of a trench and blows up like three or four Skorne dudes each. (It's not fun for the Skorne player though.) (But yeah, it's kind of awesome.) (See all those dead guys clustered off on the blue tray on top left of the last picture? Those were his total casualties after, I believe, turn 1 in round 2. All were dead due to pinpoint perfect AOE deviations or ambushing charging Kossites into a bunch of Immortals. Tee hee.)

Damn dude, that's a lot of red steel! Nice! That was May 2017, and happened to be the most recent pictures I had readily available. I have even more impressive pictures coming next time I play (and remember to take pictures)...

For some reason that scares me... It has been my experience that I tend to own more points in theme forces than most people own in their entire faction. My only problem is that most of my theme force collections are only half-painted, due to the theme force shift this edition, and stupid dumb busy work schedules in 2016 and 2017. (And also I’m painting to way too high a standard for most of these models...)

The loss of NQ Prime is effectively the death of new IKRPG content for the foreseeable future.
I truly hope PP releases an anthology style collection of all previous NQ content, similar to that tier list one they did in the dying days of MKII. The material given is sufficient for now, but large, entire sections of the Iron Kingdoms world are effectively missing. Some can (and I have) be improvised, like applying the Blighted template to Nyss to simulate Legion, or trollbloods to Bloodgorgers, but Iosan and Cryx warjack baselines are completely missing.

Well, I am thinking they are looking for a way to more effectively monetize that material. I am totally cool if they go .pdf and maybe make a partnership with a hard book pay to order model.

Except they said they were going to put out IKRPG stuff digitally on the new website. Which is already what they've been doing for several months.

Tesoe: Thank you, that's great to hear. I'll stay tuned for them, and hope it's sustained.
