So this topic was brought up to me by a friend. It accually hit me with some merit and i thought it worth posting here first to see a sample of oppinions.
Themes currently allow players to take Mercanary or Minion solos and units as an addition to the models listed in a army list.
His idea was to allow an option for theme lists to take one of the followinh if the theme allows.
A. Solo: One Mercanary/Minion solo or one non-theme listed friendly faction solo.
B. Unit: One Mercanary/Minion unit or One non-themed listed friendly faction unit.
The idea is that some themes can make better use of a non-theme unitnor solo over mercs.
Example he stated is heavy metal with the merc option unit being a arcane tempest gun mage. Allowing for better incaporial options than simply taking ayanna and holt.
Whats your opinions?

I doubt they would ever do that, one of the purposes of themes is to make it easier to balance models across a faction, as they are not directly competing with each other, this would run counter to that

This idea has been brought up with the developers before and they've always firmly said no.

No, please no. It would make the game a lot more broken than it is now, and now is VERY BROKEN. So no.

This would create all sorts of wonky combo-wombo stuff with how they've balanced the game with themes. It looks fun on paper, but it would make the game severely unbalanced at this point.

You mean like the faction making officers or the partisans do?

You can always play out of theme and use these combos. You're just missing out on 9-13 free points, which can be a big deal.

In some themes those bonuses are better than the free points.
