Let’s get right to the action:
I’m playing the very original Krueger2/Bradigus1 pair. Krueger2 is the version made popular by Tomasz Mucha and Bradigus1 is a 3 Guardian version with 2 Wights as well.
Round 1: Mirage against Robin Mauskisch, Germany Gesantkuwerk. He was playing Kolgrimma and Jarl.
We end up with Kolgrima v Krueger2. I have never played Kolgrima1 or Storm of the North but I figure I have the tools I need.
He wins the roll and chooses to go first. I quickly realize Bears on ambush and and Sentry stones mix really badly.
T1:
He moves up with everything one unit of fire eaters on each side and Champions skewed to my right, aka his zone. Bomber is on his zone, Mauler is on the opposite side.
I move up as much as I can with sentry stone semi-flanking due to bears on approach. I have beasts central, Fulcrum on my left side (opposite of his flag) and rest is all avoiding the ambush. I have solos ready to score where I can. My shifting stones make a line to safeguard the Fulcrum against Charging bears on the left.
T2: He feasts, I think this will be worse than I thought… Everything is caught except 1 Manakin. His bomber shoots a Warden for good damage. I was kinda chicken with Krueger…
Bears ambush and charge stones on my left. Run and engage on my right. Army Pushes forward now that I am a 99% melee army.
Ok, not that bad. Because he closes distance I have a lot of options. I have a couple of unimpressive rolls and only manage to score my Zone and central Flag. He scores his flag. We end up 2-1. I contain the bears and kill a few. Champs also get punched in the face a few times.
T3 and maybe 4?: We keep hitting each other. He kills a warden, his bears roll really badly, his fire eaters fail at killing a sentry stone.
Regardless he gets impatient and sends his mauler to kill my objective and fully push me out of his flag and get my zone as well. However… The bomber charged megalith and killed him with a helpful spray from a fire eater. Kolgrima is on his zone with only the mauler to transfer to and more less than 2” from the edge of Kolgrima’s control.
ASSASSINATION TIME!
I have 1 shot from my BE on kolgrima and 2 on the stone dude that is blocking LOS to her. Both Wyrds can get in on her as well and Kruger has to enable this.
I TK mauler of her control, she is now a 14/17 with 0 effective transfers. I move away from valka take a free strike and a countercharge (oops.). I transfer to a warden. Krueger shoots the stone dude and he toughs. LOS is open, TKS Valka to the side and shots Kolgrima for a couple of boxes. A Warden TKs Krueger out of the way.
2 wyds and a BE to go. Both BE’s go, I miss all unboosted shots (8+) so they get a fully boosted shot each. When I finish activating my 1st wyrd I realize I put a Wyrd B2B with an obstruction and blocked LOS from the BE to Kolgrima. I miss my 10+ to kill her on the last shot and that’s a game. Bad mistake. You can’t play Krueger2 and fail to assassinate due to anything other than dice.
I start badly but I think I can deal with Kolgrima going forward. We lose 1-4 and I’m 0-1.
Round2: Invasion, Klaas Luyckx from Belgium in my day. He has Kolgrimma and Madrak1.
Ok, he is taking Kolgrimma so I take Krueger2 and take my revenge. He take Madrak1… Ok, something new again.
He wins the roll and chooses to go first. He has (from my left to right) Bisons, Champs, Champs, Bomber middle-ish. I have Megalith, Warden along with a Sentry Stone on my left. Kruger, wyrds, Fulcrum and Warden Central and on the Right I have a sentry stone who will contest up to T5 easily since the zone is mainly an L-Shaped obstruction.
I won’t go turn by turn. I’ll do a description zone by zone.
Left zone:
Bison go in and get a rebuke to the face! Yes! It actually matters! They are now a sad excuse for a 20pt unit. They keep the rebuke despite the Big Champ unit not having a Sorcerer and end up fighting a Sentry stone around a small central forest in the zone. There was some megs action but nothing really relevant there. When the game ends 3 bisons are there along with a Fel caller and the Axer (maybe…). 1 pt scored here AFAIK.
Central Zone:
A narrow but long forest runs on thje zones left side and bisects the battle in 2. Big Champs + Madrak press the zone on one side, Krueger + BG hold the zone on the other.
Champions get to move up get shot, get Madrak’s feat, get pushed and get shot again. While this is going on I’m looking for assassinations on Madrak1 and trying to make the Bomber useless. Madrak1 keeps using Earth’s Blessing which is good for me (more on that later) but I forgo an assassination on my 2nd turn because there are champs everywhere and I can’t see a good way to get multiple beads on him.
Right Zone:
2nd unit of champs goes in. Keeps killing the same manakin while stone sits and contests. This is a dead zone. Champs turn to the center but by then I go for the assassination.
My assassination happens on T4. At this time I’m winning attriction and have lost a Warden. His Big champions are kinda gone so Madrak is easy to see and reach.
I shoot a bunch of times and then Megalith walks up kills him. He was turned and within Krueger’s Undergrowth. He also had Earth’s Blessing which helped to push stuff away from him but I forgot Purgation on the Wyrds. DUMB! DUMB! DUMB!
I liked EB on him because I could feat and not push him but purgation never crossed my mind… Jesus… At this point I realize he had given himself up for dead but kept playing maintaining the status quo and seeing if he pulled this off somehow.
We win this one 3-2 go up to 1-1, I’m 1-1.
Round 3: Recon 2, Panagiotis Ntemiris from Greece Prime. He has Zaadesh2 and Zaal.
He goes with Zaal and brings his 2 Turtles (Never played them before… ), Bronzeback, Gladiator, Archidon, Sentry, 2 Agonizers, Krea, Whip-boys and a gobber chef. I take Krueger.
Middle of the board has a huge obstruction. The rest is kinda open as it is the beach mat.
He goes first.
T1: He runs a Turtle on each zone, rest is central but leaning on his zone is Krea and Sentry with the rest more to my zone.
I move up out of charge ranges and try to find assassinations. I am light on his side and heavy on my side.
T2: He durdles around, Sentry pushes up hiding behind the obstruction. Zaadesh camps 0 after making key clouds.
He is less than 14” away from Kruger2 camping 0 but I can see an assassination due to beasts around him and Sac PaWn… This is insulting. I am insulted and go for scoring. I contest his flag and score mine.
T3 to T5: He keeps scoring more than me but I manage to win my side by killing a Turtle with 1 Warden and the Bronzeback. I shot at the Gladiator and he turned and walked into the zone sealing my scenario fate. Mistake. He was turned around and out of the zone, I used my BE for no reason. I think I would make no difference in scenario but It could push my opponent into making a mistake since he had 2 models able to run and contest. So much stuff going on from the themes…
Eventually I try to assassinate… It’s a long shot made impossible by sub-par shooting from the Wyrds. Losing Megalith to the Hyper-aggressive Gladiator was baaaad. Undergowth was missed.
We lose 2-3 go down to 1-2, I’m 1-2.
While this was happening our jerseys are making an impression around us. A UK player (Sorry don’t know your name!) comes up during the game and says “I don’t know how you’re doing but you guys have the best jerseys.”. The Germans immediately want to trade Jerseys… Ppl keep saying they love the jerseys.
Day 2. We HAVE TO do 2-1 or better for a bare minimum of 3-3 we had decided as a team and I need a 3-0 for a 4-2 (My personal goal).
With this in mind we take a walk on Warsaw’s Old town and go to bed late…
Round 4: The Pit 2, Konstantin from Russia Bears. He has Dreamer and not-Dreamer.
He plays Dreamer whom I have played before and I win the roll. I’m playing Bradigus as expected. At another table a Portuguese Grymkin is playing a Russian Bradigus.
Long story short he doesn’t clam up well enough and loses 3 heavies leaving him with 1 S&M and 1 Cage Rager and no assassination. He decides to call it after I finish my turn.
I had played this before and it looked like he had not. In my experience Dreamer has to Clam up with everything and finish of the heavies after the first push.
Our Grymkin manages to time Bradigus out. We trained mostly with each other and traning works.
We win 3-2 go up to 2-2, I’m 2-2.
Round 5: Standoff, Nicolas from France Goudurix. He has Haley2 Lightning stuff and Siege1.
As expected it’s Siege1 vs Krueger2.
He has 2 units of gunmages, 1 unit of Blazers, Triumph, Ace + Caine0, Shooty Solos. I’m not sure how much I lose to the feat but He should be in fear the whole game. And I’m ok after the feat.
I win the roll, go first.
I move up giving him a couple of shots. Siege1 deployed opposite of Kruger2. Thank you. He moves up making a bunker for Ace+ Friends and moving into the massive cloud terrain out of Walk+2xTK range… (Un)fortunately he wasn’t out of Trample+Gallows and left a corridor for Siege to be pulled. I also had Krueger+2 Tks to try if Megalith messed up his gallows.
Megs pulls him 3 “, just enough to be out of the cloud, Kreuger TKs and Undergrowths… -4 DEF on DEF 14 caster and he gets shot before the BE activates.
Me and our Menoth guy finish fast with wins but we lose the following 3 games… Finishing fast is stressful.
We lose 2-3 go down to 2-3, I’m 3-2.
Round 6: Spread the Net, Gil Surepi from Denmark 2.
He has Vlad1 many rockets and Sorcha3 many MoW.
It’s Krueger2 against Sorscha3, I win go second. I’m salivating over feated rebuked Shocktroopers.
He has (my left to right) Drakun, Marauder, Demo Corps, Beast 09, Sorscha, Shocktroops, 2xSupression Tankers, Saxon with the support spread out.
I have Fulcrum, Central BG, Solos ready for action and Megalith and a Wyrd leaning on my zone and ready to pounce on his flag.
T1:
He moves up prepping to constest the world, get hit and smash back.
I rebuke the Demo corps and press forward as much as I can. I shoot nothing.
T2:
He moves forward into contesting range of my flag behind a massive cloud wall courtesy of Sorscha, puts a tank in his flag and Saxon 4” behind to guarantee contesting. My zone is not contested.
I can’t move rebuke over the shocktroopers or they’ll walk and axe Krueger down… I feat, kill bare minimum and contest all. My guidance-on-a-stick was badly positioned and couldn’t reach Krueger2 or the BE. Important event, Megalith charges into his scoring tanker and is now alone against another tanker and saxon. Right behind him is a sentry stone and a Stoneshaper.
I score 2.
T3:
He moves up but still doesn’t see a lot of action as the Marauder is busy dealing with a Sentry Stone, Demo Korps comes into my flag, shocktroopers move forward (There is a building that lets me contest and prevents charges until he makes this last move.)
He repositions to deal with Megalith.
We both Score 1 on our zones. 3-2 for me.
Demo Corps get short a lot, most are dead. Vengeance is gone.
Megalith kills the other tanker, and puts undergrowth catching saxon. Sentry Stone kills saxon with sprays. Shaper scores flag. My zone is also scored.
5-2
T4:
Demo Corps hit a warden, Sorcha freezes another demo corps and most importantly… Gil forgets the undergrowth and that makes Beast 09 fail his charge into Megalith leaving him also out of contesting range… Arconovich and flag run in to contest. Sorscha is also exposed.
We both Score 1, so 6-3…
I need 2 points. 1 is given on my zone and after spraying the flag guy down it is done.
We win 3-2 for 3-3 and I go up to 4-2.
Team minimum done. Personal objective complete. No achievements, we must do better.
Bride with Jerseys? Is it against the rules? Can we give the rules a Jersey?
Congrats to Portugal Prime who managed a 4-2 Score and placed Portugal higher than ever before.
WTC was a blast, venue was good. People were great as usual.
We all ended up trading shirts since they were clearly our best asset. I came home with a Germany Gesantkuwerk and a Russian Bears Jersey.
