Does the Chronicler come out anymore?
I remember him being fairly ubiquitous back in my first Troll run, now I don't see him in lists and when I looked at him myself I was pretty underwhelmed. Is he just overshadowed (my feeling) or is he really just a bad support piece at the moment?

Is he just overshadowed (my feeling) or is he really just a bad support piece at the moment? The Chronicler is still a good support solo although his problem is that he is in BoH theme force and therefore is almost always the 4th choice for free models after: Fell Caller, Skaldi and Runebearer. If you aren't running Champions then I could see a place for him but almost all of our warlocks love having the extra control range from the Runebearer. The Fell Caller is always useful although Madrak1 might not need it as much due to Even Ground and Guided Hand so he could potentially be played there.

In my experience, my opponent can either hit DEF 14 with spells and guns no problem or they ignore concealment entirely. If this is coincidence, it's a big one because I swear this is 90% of the time. The not-feign-death story is hobbled to death by caveats and provisos and in practice doesn't really do anything. So if I'm taking the Chronicler at all, it's for Charge of the Trolls, which requires some pretty specific list building and is easier said than done. Honestly, I pretty much gave up on actually trying to use the Chronicler months ago. Even for a 3rd or 4th choice, I get more mileage out of a Champ Hero, and I'm even thinking about getting a Skinner for scenario play.
I will consider a Chronicler IF: -I'm in Band of Heroes, obviously -I have at least two warbeasts with 2-inch melee and -I have Fennblades or Long Riders
Grim 2 always runs a Chronicler if he can, but I don't play or even own Grim 2.

Clipped- "and I'm even thinking about getting a Skinner " This is the exact thought that triggered my question.

Really useful, especially on scenarios like Spread the net .

Concealment on champs or fens stacked with even ground or Another buff is kind of excellent.
Also charge of the trolls can be pretty usefull with a light like the Badger or a Bouncer, in tandem with fenblades, long riders and Warders.
I think the issue is a fell caller and rubebearer are just so ubiquitous in application it’s hard to fit one in as a free option. I don’t think he’s bad, I just think Caster support, and PF or +2 Mat on a stick are more universally relevant.

DEF 14 is not going to stop FOCUS 8 but DEF 16 makes them boost to hit.

Arcaux Bah curse my typos... Big Fat Troll it also means unboosted ranged attacks are really gonna struggle to hit. Units like Idrians, trenchers, and such will need to CRA to reliably hit the unit, and less Shots is always good.

If I could run Chroniclers in Kriel Company, I would every time.
I don't think they are necessary in Sotn, so even if they were offered, I would probably leave them home.
In my BoH lists, they show up maybe 25% of the time because I end up taking 2 Fell Caller Heroes, and don't always run a melee warbeast (usially bomber troll in BoH).
If the Runeshapers would count for points in PoD, I would add at least one chronicler for each Runeshaper unit, and tool for 2" melee warbeasts.

I used one or even two in BoH with Madrak 1. I tend to use a 3 lights battle group, and the chronicler really shines there

Do you still have this list kicking around? I'm curious as to what he's doing that makes (especially two) so appealing. I'm assuming Champs are in there to get some level of army cracking, but after that I'm kind of at a loss as to how this shakes out.
