Killing some time this morning I did some tabulation. I don't find team tournament numbers to be of much value due to the haze of confounding factors but it's fun to try and pick through things.
Trolls were played 154 times and won 69 times. Once you remove troll vs troll matches (Doomshaper2 and Doomshaper3 each beat Borka2 once) that is a 44.7% winrate for the Kriels on the weekend.
Our Warlocks had the following winrates (in order of popularity and with troll mirror matches removed):
Kolgrima - 32 wins, 36 losses - 47.1%
Madrak1 - 15 wins, 10 losses - 60.0%
Grim1 - 9 wins, 10 losses - 47.3%
Borka2 - 4 wins, 12 losses - 25%
Madrak2 - 2 wins, 4 losses - 33.3%
Doomshaper3 - 0 wins, 5 losses - 0%
Doomshaper2 - 1 win, 3 losses - 25%
Jarl - 2 wins, 1 loss - 66.7%
Gunnbjorn - 1 win, 1 loss - 50%
Callandra - 0 wins, 1 loss - 0%
Of course this isn't a very good picture. Were Trolls used as sandbags, did they get paired into massively superior teams (there were a fair number of 5-0 sweeps this year), did people lose list chicken, did they get screwed over by the unusual terrain setups? Thats really hard to pick apart and evaluate so again I'm going to throw away a lot of this data. I do want to take a look at a couple of the common matchups played this weekend and see what we can glean there.
Kolgrima vs Krueger - 3 wins and 4 losses on the weekend. Seems like a pretty even matchup that is probably mostly decided by minor variations in list construction, who has more experience in the matchup, and who wins the roll off (either for first or to abuse terrain).
Kolgrima vs Ossrum - 1 wins and 4 losses on the weekend. Having played this a LOT into high level Ossrum players this matchup is a pain. You have to know what you are doing and be on your game to pull it out. Also Ossrum has a huge variance in list construction so it's hard to cover all variations of the list properly (battlegroup heavy or infantry heavy or maybe even a Siege Crawler build?). Either the Trolls were being hunted or they didn't properly evaluate the Ossrum matchup when figuring out draft priorities.
Skarre1 - 4 wins and 8 losses on the weekend, Grim getting 2 of those wins with the remaining two going to Jarl and Madrak. One of our most played against Warcasters all weekend and we came through with an abyssmal winrate. I'm betting this is due to the list diversity of Cryx in general and that led to list chicken scenarios that were often lost. Or it could be not coming in prepared for the variations she brings (double cav? 4 stalkers? etc) and mis-evaluating the matchup.
Gaspy3 - 4 games in total vs the Hellbringer himself. Unsure if this was the Gaspy players dodging Trolls (champs plus bears can ruin slayer spam's day if played correctly) or just consistently getting the other list (see Skarre1 above).
If any WTC Troll players have any anecdotes of the weekend they want to share, feel free to help paint in the picture.
