I don't remember who wrote the list, but I saw it in the WiTC lists and decided to give it a try. Conclusion so far: it's a blast! So thanks to the original creator, who hopefully will find this thread and add his two cents.
The core of the list looks something like this. I changed it around from the original list to add Valkyries, and omitted some solos (like Alten Ashley) in exchange.
Jaga Jaga
- 4x Swamp Horrors
- 1x Wrastler
- Soul Slave
2x Efarit Scouts
Orin Midwinter
Lanyssa
Mist Speaker
min Bonegrinders
Farrow Valkyries
So why four Swamp Horrors with Jaga Jaga? Because everything she does directly benefits the horrors. Her Battle Host upkeep gives them +2" threatrange, putting them at 13" with no investment other than an upkeep (which is free with the Soulslave). Overtake is golden on these guys. Signs and Portents is both a damage and hit buff for them. Ghost Walk lets them go through Terrain (and even walking they have a 10" threat with Pull). Last but not least, her Field Marshal can let them hit back with the potential for a crit.
Ingame, the list feels a bit like the similar Rask list with two Horrors and three lessers, but with less buffs and rules to keep track off. While the Rask list has better defensive Tech, this one just works with little to no thought put into it. Keep the wrastler back, upkeep battle host, cast S&P and most likely Rage (or Ghost Walk) on one Horror, use the Wrastler for the second rage, go in. Thanks to the themelist, your Swamp Horrors can run up 14" (great when you get first turn) and with Lanyssa threaten 15". I like putting them all up Turn one, and keeping the Valkyries behind them to make my opponent's big guns threaten them less.
The Efarit, while cornercase, actually work well in this list because of S&P which makes their single shot very reliable. I added Orin to take the Spell Assassination off the table and for Chain Lightning; I also experienced with Eilish for Puppet Master (sometimes on Lanyssa), or maybe Alten for more ranged Threat (he was in the original version of the list).
So far I haven't had a chance to play this into medium base spam, but this list seems perfect to deal with Ogryn and the like. Overtake really lets you clean house, even if your opponent has good spacing.
I played it into a Sylvestro mixed arms list where I won the attrition (though the Rocketmen where a pain) and then got an assassination through an obstruction thanks to Ghost walk, then played it into CoC Locke with 2 TEPs and a colossal, which is bad news since even fully buffed the Horrors don't have the punch to get rid of a colossal most of the time, and into Una2 where I won the attrition handily, but then lost on scenario because I was too cocky.
I love the list so far because the Horrors do so much more work than one might think, and it's far easier to play than the Rask list. I'm pretty sure the Rask list is better on the whole, but this is more fun to me!
