So I'm getting my Spears of Scyrah painted up next and playing around with them. I know they are pretty ubiquitous in Shadows lists that I see around and my questions are:
1. Do they do enough, or are there just not options available in that theme? 2. How do you keep them alive at ARM 11? Even weak blast damage is horrible, and "playing careful" only goes so far. 3. Any particular caster making them shine for you? I'm going to start with Kaelyssa in my first testing round. 4. Any fine tuned tech you want to share? 5. They look like the only real target in our whole faction that makes good use of Revive, has anyone run a Shadows list with G4? (I get that he is a different caster after CID, so maybe if you ran that option during testing as well?)
Thanks

With E3 attached i find people commit a lot to try to kill them and often fail. Throw them on a weak flank behind a forest toed in a zone or something and people will send way more than theyre worth to kill them. I also find they are great for triggering vyros1 feat with vengeance, charge, repo 3, 2" rng.

You can afford to play him a little aggressively and then use the certainly dead shield guards to back him to safety.

I like them with Elara2, as if you put Scything Touch on one of them you essentially get up to 3 separate positions for the debuff between a vengeance move, regular activation and reposition. Can be pretty useful

I ran them with G4 before the CID. I was specifically trying to use Revive and can verify that the Spears are indeed excellent Revive targets. It gets even more annoying when you add a couple of Soulless Escorts to trigger Vengeance.
While it is true that blast damage is horrible, the models often survive a single weak blast. This tends to be enough to get them into combat.
The Spears can put out decent damage on a charge due to Weapon Master and normal infantry (without access to boosts) really struggle to kill them. Against different opponents, the Shield Guards can be a huge deterrent. My Spears did not earn their points back in every game but all in all I was happy to bring them.

Im thinking of playing a small game out of theme (teaching players they are at 35 pts)
Running them with quicken from Ossyan and using a battle mage to give them forcebarrier may make them super good.
Speed 8 def 17 vs all attavks and immunity to blast turn one may be good. Them going to spd 8 also is huge

So does G4 change enough (assuming CID sticks) to make him prefered here? Or stay my Kalyssa course? Issy is out, I loaned her to someone two years ago, so pretty sure that she's found a new home now. Elara2 I like the theory of, but, she's my comfort list and not going anywhere for the time being while I play with other options
