Ages back I picked up the IK Leto and Vinter models just because I liked them. So the release of rules to let you play Vinter as your war... lord is interesting to me. I've tried building lists for him but I'm having trouble getting past his 0 WJP. His version of Power Up makes me want to run marshaled Accumulator jacks, but that eats up so many points. They could have at least given him the Jack Marshal rule himself! I guess I don't know what to run him with. I was wondering if he can target himself with Desperate Pace, but then I realized it's an action so there's no point.
I kind of want to play him in a 0 point game to see how he fares alone against a small battlegroup (and just for the "final boss" nature of the encounter). He looks fairly hard to kill (at least hard enough to tank an average heavy for one round), so he might actually have a chance. Funnily enough since he's not a warcaster I guess that makes him technically legal in Company of Iron... except he doesn't have a points cost or acquisition cost... guess that means I can take him for free?
Anyway, has anyone actually tried him? I'm rather hoping to hear from people who've actually played him (if such a person actually exists) rather than people who've just looked at his card and written him off.

He is an inferior Butcher, with only 3 focus each turn, but is virtually immortal as long as he is close to something tanky like an arcane shielded centurion. Sac pawn cygnar is his only saving grace.

I feel like they should have given him Sacred Ward, and Riposte, just to make him even more crazy as a super solo

What about running him with all the journyman warcasters and/or jack martialed jacks? Heavy metal?

Another option is to run Jr's with jacks on them. Power up helps them fuel their jacks. I was not convinced he is worth 20 to 32 WJ points. Screen him until you can get within threat of their caster then go for the assassination.

I was thinking about the junior warcasters, but are they focus-starved enough for Vinter's extra focus contribution to really be valuable? Do they bring anything that's worth more than Crush and Reposition from a Sword Knight Captain or Runewood? Plus if the Marshals die the jacks go autonomous and still get focus; if a junior dies Vinter can't reactivate their jack.

Guess it depends on how many jacks you pile on them :-D You could also use the extra focus to keep them alive longer. Maybe a mixture of the two would be good? Then if a Jr gets capped you can have the JM move B2B and reactivate it.

Although he is the worst choice ever, maybe compete with Blaize or even worse, but have a 0pt game is the worst choice for him - he lacks warjack points, so in 0pt game all you can acquire is Vinter, nothing more.
He is only ARM 18, and has 19 damage box, means he is weaker than an Ironclad(same ARM and 30 damage box), which is simply dismantled against focused anti-ranged attacks if you can't use Sacrificial Pawn. Although he is DEF 15, most things that can make the ranged attack that is within the battlegroup can boost the attack roll(only the additional models or troopers are not).
Ironically, Stormclad will loves him, though, with Accumulator[Storm Knight] the marshalled Stormclads will hack anything on sight. Since Vinter has no hatred toward Storm Knight models it is nothing wrong to do that.
I think that, if you should use him, then the best place would be a 100 or 125+pt game - in 100pt you can mitigate your penalty of about -30 warjack points mostly, and in 125+pt game you can bring an actual warcaster with him.

OK, let me give some insight AGAIN to a post talking about how GOOD Vinter is IN THE EVENT GAME MODE.
Read the rules, he is the best caster to play in that game mode, absolutely the best, far more OP than any other alternative -1 version

A few days ago I finally played a game with Vinter. This was technically my first Cygnar game (I say "technically" because my first ever "game" of Warmachine was with the MkII Cygnar battlebox against a Pressganger, and also because there's very few actual Cygnar models in the list I played). I did have a lot of fun murdering infantry with Vinter, but my opponent was playing Stryker 2 with GMCA's and he was able to murder Vinter when I got too close. Which I actually think was pretty thematic.
I'm trying to write a battle report but haven't been able to sit down and knock it out yet. My list was: Vinter Junior -Sentinel Falk Lanyssa Nyss Hunters Alexia 1
Arcane Shield on Vinter. The Sentinel followed him to protect him from ranged attacks. Falk was there to buff his (and Alexia's) damage, and Lanyssa to buff his threat range. The two units were not chosen for any particular reason other than that I own them and am used to them.
