Anyone use them successfully?
In principle it seems ambush is pretty good, since backstrike is easily achieved and they have a threat of 6+3+10 on their guns on the turn they ambush. Prowl is also good. At close range they get even more accurate due to mark target.
Also they are flexible enough to not ambush and hold them back and send them in the way cygnar uses their rangers -- suicide run style.
Anyone have any success with them? The problem with them in SotN is that 10pts=1 unit of bears. Which seems like a huge opportunity cost. Kriel company will probably appreciate them more, but Kriel Company is an average theme which typically needs one to use points to shore up its other weaknesses.

Honestly I have not managed to get much use out of them via Mark Target or shooting things as my dice seem to go cold whenever I activate them. Mostly ai have been Ambushing them to contest flags and zones for a key turn.

Charlescharmiceal over at Line of Sight uses them in a grim 1 list to great effect.
They help with accuracy, can kill support models pretty easily (back strike and mark target makes them Rat 8) and they do a great job at stalling scenario.
I underestimated them but they are super usefull

I dig them in the Jarl of the North list posted elsewhere. That is a minimum unit, which only(?) costs a unit of fire eaters, though.

I have used them with jarl. Great for him to have mark the target. I have also used them with doomy 1 with a gk. Having the gk hit without voosting is super good. Should work with pretty much any caster.

Going after back-line support models is something that they actually do better than the Bears because 1) They can get 8 to hit more easily, 2) They don't necessarily have to trade to kill a couple Paingivers, and 3) Their guns reach much further. And yes, Ambush is a very strong ability in scenario play and these guys are well-suited to both scenario and ranged-assassination lists. I have played them with both Grim 1 and Grissel 2 recently.

On a similar note, why are Khador Kossite Woodsmen so maligned? Don't they fill a similar role?

I haven't had a chance to use them, but they seem to fix a major issue with Troll shooting, which is poor RATs. I feel that for years people have been asking for a "ranged" fellcaller, since in mkI the fellcaller was a +2 to the to hit roll, and this was changed to just melee. Mark the Target fixes this, taking our RAT5/6 models to a much better place.

They are an amazing scenario unit. They kill solo’s to stop people from scoring a flag, and you can’t hide from them. Haven’t played 2 units yet, but 1 always gets their points back.
