This came up in another thread, and there are great creative ideas floating around these boards and the web. I'll add a few pics, too. I'm talking about anything you've created that shows a snapshot of action on a model or piece of terrain.
Explosions Muzzle flash Flares Flying shells and bombs Flames Electricity Emerging from water, etc. Splattering water, beer, mud, goo Spells and force fields Souls, ghostly effects Glowy, bubbly lava or goo Smoke/ Clouds Exhausts Freezing/ ice effects Jumping, smashing something Blood and gore Smoldering pipes and cigars? Other?
...Bonus points for OSL. Cheers!

I haven't really mucked about too much with that sort of thing (unless you count my LED stuff), but here's a model with some (attempts at) glows: This was an attempt at a bit more of a soft glow:

I really like the glow on the cape! The starry night lining is lovely, and the glow around the edges is a really neat idea I may have to find an excuse to step.

Sure, OSL / lighting effects are cinematic to my mind, anyway. I took a couple pics looong ago with a slightly different ice axe effect (here's hoping the "new" penitent Photobucket can behave)...
That "eternal flame" on the base is Lego and a flickering LED, harvested from a Christmas card, no less.

This is a very cool thread idea. I'm going to have to figure out how to post pictures so I can put some of my (first few) attempts at OSL in.

This is a very cool thread idea. I'm going to have to figure out how to post pictures so I can put some of my (first few) attempts at OSL in. First of all, I recommend posting from a PC. If you are on your phone, maybe select "Desktop Site" from the browser options to access the full suite of posting tools. Make sure you click on "reply" on the upper right of the text box rather than "post quick reply" underneath it to go to the full editor mode. Now either use the "add attachment" button on the top right to insert a file into the post, or use the image button (the icon looks like a framed landscape photo or something) to paste an image URL and have it embedded in the post.

Here are some jets of flame conversions with cool OSL. Very dynamic! (The first one is an award winner - not mine of course.) Attribution: Victoria via Cool mini or Not Attribution: Shockrage via Reddit I'll add some examples of converted lightning, water effects, etc. from around the web soon.

Well, I'm having trouble with this, but I think I can get these two through. More will follow when I work out my technical difficulties. I'm not entirely pleased with how chalky the OSL got on the leader's belly, but I didn't want to repaint him so I could try it again. The flame is green because I decided in an earlier model to make the booze glow green, which then led to green fire. Apologies for the phone pic, I don't have another camera at the moment. The fire eater Pyg Grunt, above, is my favorite of the three models in the unit. I thinned the orange with a yellow artists ink for the OSL, and it came out really nicely, I thought, for my third model with OSL.

I'll add some examples of converted lightning, water effects, etc. from around the web soon. That first one is from Victoria Lamb, who I believe is generally considered to have invented OSL. Look guys, can we please attribute the original creators properly if we're going to post stuff that isn't our own?

I agree with that attribution sentiment wherever possible. All I knew is that it was an award winner and certainly not mine.
I have plans to share some cinematic effects beyond my own mediocre stuff in this thread. All I can do is see if the original painter is listed with a quick search. Some of the images are simply on my hard drive. I personally think it's flattery rather than an insult to show good work as an example.
And I'm happy to attribute any finished model to it's painter if someone lets me know.

Adding OSL to a cool model carries some risk! Still, looks pretty good, man! It takes guts to stretch your abilities and skill set like that. And I like the concept, as I said via PM, of having the green flame match the green fluid.

A lesson I learned is that I take risks better late at night. Of course, I did end up going a bit overboard, but that is just the way the cookie crumbles. I also really like the artist's inks aka high-flow acrylics, for the OSL, the pyg had those in the mix and the others didn't, and it really shows in the smoothness of the blend. I suppose if I got up the nerve to wet-blend rather than just dry brush it would be easier and more recoverable in case of error, too. That sounds like another late night project for me!
