Hey everyone!
Starting July 10th (one week)
I will be participating in a Journeyman at my FLGS.
The Confirmed Factions are; PoM, Trollbloods, Skorne, Skorne and Cygnar. Probable 6th player is Retribution
I'm going to chronicle my adventures with the Protectorate, I'll also be looking for feedback and input with regards to the army.
Preview for Week 1: BB only.
Malekus -Castigator -Revenger -Repenter
Now I have a problem with the Repenter. I hate that Jack I don't know why, I've never liked it and I never used it in MK2. But now I'm going to be stuck with him for 6 weeks.
My basic game plan is to Arc scourge into Heavies or preferably the enemy caster and use a boosted damage Repenter shot to assassinate.

Repenter is good with Open Fire(Run+spray). Skorne has 'Steady' Shield Guard and +2 move, Pathfinder. IMO Malekus is not the best caster vs Skorne. EoT+Crusader can do the trick.

Untill I can switch casters (week 4) I'm stuck with Malekus.
Infantry and solos aren't available till week 3.
Also each week adds 15 points to be used, you can bank points to spend on more expensive units or jacks.
For week 2: BB plus 15 points leaves a few options available.
Option 1: Add another Heavy Jack Option 2: Two Dervish Option 3: Add a devout and bank 6 points

Honestly, the repenters with Malekus are not all that bad and can be pretty brutal on feat turn. IIRC though, you may run into issues with Skorne as I seem to recall them being able to more or less stay out of the Protectorate threat range -- at least in the first two weeks when there are no zones to worry about. The biggest problem you'll run into with the repenter is that with a lot of jacks/beasts in the fray in the early weeks due to the Journeyman rules, it will have a hard time cracking armor. Its best used to set up a shot at the enemy caster. One thing to remember is that your Castigator is immune to fire, so you can use it to set up the repenter shots.
As for what to spend points on in weeks 2/3, etc., I personally think the better bet is to look at where you want to end up ultimately and then see how you can accomplish that. It might make for a lean week or two (especially week 2) but it will probably put you in better standing for the later weeks.
Most importantly: Have Fun!

you can get HoJ+Castigator and then switch to Feora =) Eww Feora! Ha ha ha, I hate her from a fluff perspective.
I'm torn between moving to a Kreoss3 list or sticking with Malekus.
I really like EoT and I could try to stick him into the list in week 3.

Week 1: Battle Box
I was able to play two games
Both vs Cygnar
Game 1 was great fun, however it was vs an 10 year old kid and his Dad, I basically had to play for them and I managed to beat myself! It's always fun to teach new players the game and show them how to win!
Game 2 was vs another Cygnar Player
The only piece of terrain that matters will be the woods in the center. Turn 1 He casts Dauntless Resolve and runs everything forward.
I put ignite on my Castigator and Run everything forward and around to the right side of the woods his ironclad is on the left side- I'm planning on using the woods to screen my army and ignore the iron clad.
Turn 2
He puts the iron clad in the woods and casts Assaail on it.
The Lancer and Firefly move up on the left. He puts a good shot into the Repenter and gets a leap into my caster boosts damage and gets 1 point through after focus cuts it down by 5.
On my turn I move up closer using the Revenger to screen my Castigator and postion my Repenter to shoot his Firefly I get 5 damage through, I also arc Malekus's pow 12 spell into the Firefly and score 5 or 6 more points of damage with a boosted roll. I move Malekus up and keep him 11.5" away from that Iron clad.
Turn 3
He disrupts the Castigator and shoots the firefly at my Revenger scoring some damage but the leap isn't close enough to get Malekus.
He casts Onsalught and puts the ironclad into the Repenter. He was trying to get Malekus, but he realized I had kept my caster far away. He destroys the Repenter with a fully loaded Ironclad.
My turn 3
I fully load both my Revenger and Castigator... If I can clear out the Lancer I can get the Castigator into Maddox. She has 1 focus and I'll be hitting at PS-18.
So the revenger Charges in and hits hard enough,to cripple the shield arm. The shield plinks off a few damage and I follow up with 3 more halberd attacks, however,I whiffed 1 attack and end up leaving the Lancer on 4 boxes (Nooo!!))
But I remember I have Open Fire, making one extra melee attack with the Revenger and a goos roll let's me clear the lane.
The Castigator charges in I boost to hit and leave Maddox on 7 boxes. I boost to hit with the second, attack and boost damage. I'm doing dice +2 on 3 dice and my opponent concedes. I roll, anyway to check and hit a 9. Good Game.
Exciting first week. We had a really solid turn out
3 Cygnar, 1 menoth, 1 trolls, 2 Skorne and 1 Khador. 3 other people had expressed interest but didn't show.
Week 2: BB +15. I think I have two options Plan for a Malekus GotT list with EoT or plan for an EI list with Durrant2.
If I stick with Malekus I'm thinking I take a devout this week and EoT in week 3.
If I go the Durrant 2 route I go for a Templar.
Let me Know what you think!

Malekus will not make it in the 50+ range, as you need to remember the skorne will be threading through heavy jack lines and absolutely annihilating Malekus. With less cover models, Cygnar will be able to do the same.
The Castigator and the revenger will be good throughout, but you might want to think of taking advantage of the revenger for arcing spells once you can change your caster. Another thing to remember is the battlebox for Skorne is a load of crap x.x Xekaar is 15/14 with only 16 boxes and no real damage output of his own. Use the repenter to bait the gladiator and the castigator can one round it, absolutely nuteuring the entire box. Due to there being 3 cygnar players, the natural next step would be to put in a basilisk krea as well. Thus you'll only need to worry about damage output for your next round ^-^ lets see... min unit of idrian skrimishers with attachment= 14 pts, leaving you 16 pts for the next round. you also know that the skrimishers will more than likely be in your final list as well ^-^

Week 2 I took a Templar
I split my two games in week 2 as well. Victory vs Skorne and a Loss to Retribution. Didn't take notes so no real battle report.
I primarily use the Revenger as bait for enemy heavy's by arching spells through him and following up with the Templar or Castigator.
If I want to switch to Durrant2 I can only use 13 points in week 3 or 4 (2 less WJP)
Week 3 is looking like :
Protectorate Army - 30 / 30 points [Theme] Guardians of the Temple
[Malekus 1] Malekus, the Burning Truth [+30] - Castigator [12] - Repenter [8] - Revenger [10] - Templar [15] Choir of Menoth (min) [4] Temple Flameguard (min) [7] - Temple Flameguard Officer & Standard [4]
I could also make it a max unit of TFG with no officer.

x.O; idrian skrimishers min and officer. give yourself some serious range pressure. they may start as mercs but count as protectorate when fielded with protectorate. It'll be an easy mop up unit or a unit that can clean house. Malekus, if I remember correctly, is on a medium sized base, meaning the only defensive line that makes sense is one that is medium sized UNTIL you can change caster. Put prey on their most important piece or even their caster and suddenly you're looking at a one sided game.

If only I had them! I know they're good, I've just always played exemplars, I picked up the TFG when they were cheap. One thing to remember about the Journey man is you have to stick with the same models from the previous week, the only thing that can change is the unit size. I have to consider if the Idrian's would fit in with Durrant2. I know I should have Idrian's it's just that I have a back log of unpainted minis and I hate buying more when I haven't finished what I've started. Perhaps I'll add the Idrian's in week 5; but I also need to have 7 jacks in Durrant's army.

I could also make it a max unit of TFG with no officer. Max 'em. The important thing here is the no knockdown + tough.

Thats funny, because the Repenter is really the only good thing in the battlebox that you might use down the road. Its also the only real bit of synergy with Malakus's feat. No, Combustion does NOT count.
