I want to put him on the table this weekend. Looking at the spells, he seems trappy. Upkeep lamentation, feat to be up in their face. But then terminal velocity asks you to drop lamentation "safety" net to get a extended threat range. But he should already be up in the middle of things to get lamentation to do work and his feat. So why have TV? I get counter charge. That fits everything else about him.
I was going to run him in DH.

I like him in BI with desecrator spam, and I want to try him with slaughterfleet, mortality seems really good with it

You don't have to drop Lamentation for Terminal Velocity as the latter is not an upkeep. He is pretty focus strapped in general, because you basically always want to cast Terminal Velocity and upkeep Lamentation (hopefully free), then if he wants to allocate, he basically doesn't cast Mortality. For these reasons, both the Withershadow Combine and Deathjack are good with him. I played this for a while: conflictchamber.com/#c4201b_-0U163c3c1pd-d-1e1e3b1v1v0t2kCryx Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] Black Industries [Venethrax 1] Lich Lord Venethrax [+26] - Desecrator [14] - Desecrator [14] - Harrower [16] - Inflictor [13] - Inflictor [13] - Ripjaw [0(7)] - Ripjaw [0(7)] - Scavenger [0(7)] - Slayer [10] - Slayer [10] - The Withershadow Combine [9] Machine Wraith [2] It works quite well, but it's difficult to have it hit very hard, so crumbles against armour. This is partly because he not Asphyxious 3, so his jacks are still really fragile and threaten a max of 12". Terminal Velocity on a Harrower is awesome though. Since you want the Withershadow and everything in his battle group, you don't really have space to add in more utility like an Iron Lich Overseer. Don't fall into the trap of thinking a Seether on it is as good as a Slayer on Venethrax. You lose out on 2" threat and it costs almost twice as much (5+13 compared to 10). I would probably consider swapping an Inflictor and Slayer for Deathjack, but then it's a lot of eggs in one basket and you kind of want throw-away jacks. Also, more Counter Charges is always better and provides a real headache for your opponent. TL;DR: he's a lot of fun, but difficult to build a list for.

hmm, i was gunna go the DH route. i guess i missed TV wasnt an upkeep.
venny levix2 scavengerx2
WE BLT DW
max knights max warriors ua
venny is undead so the WE helps him get up the table. keeping the levis and scavengers close lets me put damage on stuff that looks his direction and if stuff does come in ill have the scavengers counter. also having the 2 4" clouds will help a tad.
i dont have wsc to upkeep stuff but at this point i wont care about TV and just want to pass out Mortality which ill need to get within 10 to cast with no nodes
its probably a super bad idea but ill throw it on the table and see what happens.

I think a pretty basic Slaughter Fleet list should work well with him. I've been wanting to play this for a while, but I so rarely get to play I haven't even picked up some of the newer models.

I always felt terminal velocity was a better fit with Mortenebra, however, I do understand why they gave it to him as he is supposed to be our anti-hordes guy and terminal velocity just messes kills living beasts.
I do feel he is really focused strapped and he really misses having that soul gathering spell that Scaverous has now. Having said that, Venethrax has a lot of ways you can build him and be effective, the trap is to try and do too much at once because he is very versatile.
Here is a for funsies list that I have been wanting to play.
Venethrax - Satyxis Blood Priestess - Stalker x 2 - Harrower - Ripjaw - Deathripper Satyxis Raider Captain Axiara Wraithblade Severa Blacktide Misery Cage x2 Satyxis Blood Witches + hag Satyxis Gunslingers Satyxis Raiders + Sea Witch
My focus will be lamentations and focus on using mortality and deadweight to help my ladies demolish everything and not have much to worry about in return. I feel satyxis usually need a little help in the damage department and mortality should do nicely.

why when the rest of the army does so well with clearing infantry. also, the harrower will steal souls?

You are right in both counts, I could trade that out for a leviathan as it does hit slightly harder in melee, but against my normal opponent, the harrower is a psychological thing. He has been assassinated with terminal velocitied harrowers more times than I can count so it is always target number 1 regardless of the actual threat. It will give the rest of my list free reign, haha.
