So it's a bit of a downer reading and posting in the bad feeling thread (although I think it's a necessary and valid conversation to have), so I thought I'd try spark some talk on something a little more upbeat.
Last week I finished painting up Skarre3, so I'm back in Cryx with a vengeance. I have a painting schedule that takes her from Black Industries (just needed to paint up Ironmongers) through Scourge (need to paint up Axiara, Severa, the priestess and a pair of misery cages) finally through to slaughter fleet (will need bloodgorgers, scharde dirge seers and Jussika). At some point I'll break out Dark Host as well, since she's just that versatile.
My first outings have thus all been Black Industries, using the following list:
Skarre, Admiral of the Black Fleet Kraken Leviathan Malice Seether Nightwretch Nightwretch Withershadow Combine Black Ogrun Ironmongers Necrotect Soul Trapper Warwitch Siren
I am happy to report that the list is a blast to play! You can outshoot a Kara Sloan gunline (thanks to all the defensive anti-shooting tech), which is just obscene. The Kraken is fantastic with her, and it's really hard to rush the kraken when ironmongers can curse the unit. A Dragon's blood seether (that can be slipstreamed) one-rounds Ruin, so that's a thing. Even the Leviathan has been pulling his weight (most games - one game he rolled a 1 for shots every turn...) and it's really awesome to take the free nightwretches for their guns instead of the Arcnode. Combine and Malice might both get dropped, but they're OK so far. Ironmongers are just straight-up amazing. Skarre herself has just a ludicrous personal output. She solo-killed the old witch (in her walking house), and has scared my Khador opponent enough that she had Butcher1 hiding from her all game.
So that's my thoughts so far on the Admiral. How are you lot finding the latest incarnation of our nautical mistress?

I have yet to try her out (have not had time to play in about a month) but I have been waiting for someone to tout some personal experience. She looks great on paper with her only weakness really being on the huge base and that can be circumvented through distance in most matchups. I am glad she is living up to the hype.

She is really hard to hurt as well. I tanked 4 battle-driven knights exemplar under their minifeat with her (died 2 turns later to three remaining though).
Her kit is just fantastic - delivery, protection, personal output, speed, tricks, ranged support, melee damage support, survivability. she may just be the best all-rounder caster released since Strakhov2.

I'm in a similar situation as tiberius, but I am in general pretty excited to play her, most likely in Slaughterfleet, but I can see Banes happening in a pseudo-Terminus fashion.

I see 4 themes all working well with her, each making use of her kit to different degrees:
Black Industries - leverages deceleration and guided fire primarily, solid damage in melee with dragon's blood, not great use of reinforcements, no use of dash Scourge - leverages reinforcement and dragon's blood primarily, moderate use for dash and guided fire, very little use for deceleration Dark Host - leverages deceleration well and supercharges damage with dragon's blood. Host finds dash really welcome with low SPD values, loses out on guided fire and reinforcements Slaughter Fleet - uses every part of the animal, but doesn't leverage any particular part of it really hard

unded: it's not always ideal, but Cephalyx Overlords are an option in any theme to leverage reinforcements.

Nice catch.
I don’t own any, so they were off my radar. They actually make a lot of sense in Black industries who really dislike being swarmed by infantry

I know it doesn't maximize free points, but I like the Darragh + Dash combo and Knights threatening 12" with effective POW 18s is mean. Couldn't find anything that works out though and I did happen to have 8 left for the Overlords. conflictchamber.com/#c4201b_-0Bkt3c3ci22Ej62ni5h-h_h-h_32Cryx Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] Dark Host [Skarre 3] Skarre, Admiral of the Black Fleet [+27] - Desecrator [14] - Desecrator [14] Bane Lord Tartarus [0(6)] Darragh Wrathe [9] Eilish Garrity, the Occultist [5] Necrotech [0(2)] Bane Knights (max) [15] Bane Warriors (max) [16] - Bane Warrior Officer & Standard [0(5)] Bane Warriors (max) [16] - Bane Warrior Officer & Standard [5] Cephalyx Overlords [8]

I decided to pass on taking a living unit in order to take a WE to maximize the antishooting. Here’s what I ended up with. I will be trying out this list once I finish up my Skarre. Cryx - Skarre3 DH Theme: Dark Host 3 / 3 Free Cards 75 / 75 Army Skarre, Admiral of the Black Fleet - WJ: +27 - Desecrator - PC: 14 (Battlegroup Points Used: 14) - Inflictor - PC: 13 (Battlegroup Points Used: 13) Wraith Engine - PC: 15 Darragh Wrathe - PC: 9 - Darragh Wrathe (Continued) Bane Lord Tartarus - PC: 0 Gorman Di Wulfe, Rogue Alchemist - PC: 4 Bane Warriors - Leader & 9 Grunts: 16 - Bane Warrior Officer & Standard - Officer & Standard: 0 Bane Warriors - Leader & 9 Grunts: 16 - Bane Warrior Officer & Standard - Officer & Standard: 0 Bane Knights - Leader & 9 Grunts: 15 Theme: Dark Host

Having 3 max units and no Eilish is very tempting for Rebuke casters. I've been playing a lot of Dark Host and I find that in most cases 1 source of +2 ARM is enough. That said, it does free up Skarre to cast other things, if she's not in danger of dying herself, since the Engine won't affect her.
On the bright side, the Overlords also count for free points and are some great unjammers/infantry clearers.

For dark host I’d look at something like this:
War Room Army
Cryx - Skarre3 Host
Theme: Dark Host 3 / 3 Free Cards 75 / 75 Army
Skarre, Admiral of the Black Fleet - WJ: +27 - Desecrator - PC: 14 (Battlegroup Points Used: 14) - Defiler - PC: 8 (Battlegroup Points Used: 8) - Stalker - PC: 8 (Battlegroup Points Used: 5)
Wraith Engine - PC: 15
Bane Lord Tartarus - PC: 0 Machine Wraith - PC: 0 Darragh Wrathe - PC: 9 - Darragh Wrathe (Continued) Necrotech - PC: 2 Soul Trapper - PC: 1
Bane Knights - Leader & 9 Grunts: 15 Bane Riders - Leader & 4 Grunts: 20 Bane Warriors - Leader & 5 Grunts: 10 - Bane Warrior Officer & Standard - Officer & Standard: 0
THEME: Dark Host ---
GENERATED : 06/08/2018 09:49:19 BUILD ID : 2066.18-05-11
I really like the interaction between dash and death ride, and unhallowed plus deceleration is so good on both knights and riders that I absolutely want both. Darragh can also make the ARM really oppressive by using beyond death.
The defiler gives you some solid anti-infantry if needed when buffed with guided fire, while the arc node allows you to upkeep and then hot-swap dragon’s blood in order to really crank up bane damage.
Most of this is just personal preference, but I do have to ask about Gorman - with Banes and a STR buff, is he really necessary at all?

Just a small remark: Beyond Death is called Mortal Fear in MK3
