My father and I will be entering a tournament at the end of August and my dad has been asking me with help in picking and designing lists for it and we're both stumped on this one. We know there's gonna be a few ghost fleet lists, but I've never personally played and I don't know legion well enough to help him... ideas?

There will be other guys with concrete lists. Im on the phone so ill just say:
Ghost fleet lost a lit of punch after the nerf to revenants. the main problem now should be the incomporeal on the ghost raiders and maybe the battleengine. to answer this we have three/ four options: Ammok, the new caster attachement A Naga witht the wraithbane animus A Bogtrog mistspeaker with guidance (A caster with magical weapons who can do a lot of work on its own)
Just mix one of the first three with maybe the fourth and you should have a game
bonus points if you find a way to prevent the recursion (golab / thagrosh 1 / bethayne1 ) but i think its not that important anymore.
Also cram a throne or two into the list and watch pirates melt. They are prime candidates to recieve magic weapons and vaporise ghost raiders too

Just take 2 thrones. If you want to have a real good margin, take the twins for banishing ward / marked for death.
Since pDenny's nerf, the thrones really ruins the pDenny version of the list (they can still charge and cast spells during the feat lol).
The Coven version is a little harder but I find this easier than Coven/DarkHost since the revenants took the nerf bat in the knees.
I like the twins in the matchup since with occultation they're kinda hard to caster kill, while threatening to caster kill from afar in return (specially pDenny). And they bring all the support needed to the list.

I still think Abby 2 with blight wasps in OoA should work. The unit with mirage threatens 16" with 2" reach killing spree.
However I must qualify this by saying I have not played into GF. No one locally runs it.

Won't blighted eiryss(?) make ghostfleet disolve on featturn? Or are those shots not magical?
Ice witches, eThags, twins, naga, sorc+hellion, hexhunters... these things just make them weep due to all those magic sprays/attacks I think. Plenty of options outside terrors.

Twins with 2 thrones is probably the best option. Banishing ward on 1 and occultation on the other makes it very hard to get the debuffs/shots out... but that list is probably too specialized to justify in a SR pair.
Best choice is probably a PT list that leverages Golab/Ammok, especially as that build is more well rounded to play into more of the field.
Thags1/Naga list is probably 3rd best, just be sure to have spell martyrs.

Golab's Carrion Feat could be a big boon to remove models. Ammok does deny incorp which is great to deal with the battle engines
but that's not really enough to shut down Ghost Fleet. The battle engines are just as easily dealt with by taking a Naga which is in every theme but CotD. Blackbanes can be dealt with by hex hunters, throne, BFS, icewitches and even Forsaken's blight bomb.
I do not deny PT has some helpful things. It's not a "counter" for GF.
If only blood drinker and snaking would RFP undead models.

1 tech that we have access to in Minions: Farrow Slaughter housers have takedown to RFP the pirates. If you don't own them, it's not likely something you want to go out and buy. But I have them for my gator army and they work for both Legion and my wife's Circle so yeah...

It’s not so much about hard countering ghost fleet as it is about bringing tools to answer the questions while not pigeon holing yourself is not a bad pair because you tried to over compensate for one boogeyman. The golab/ammok combo is a huge toolkit for what is otherwise a very well rounded theme... so when you can only bring 2 lists and need to be able to play into a wide ranging field, it’s goinh to be the best value solution.

Banishing ward on 1 and occultation on the other makes it very hard to get the debuffs/shots out... but that list is probably too specialized to justify in a SR pair. I'm not so sure about that, I brought them at my last 2 tournaments - the idea was to have them deal with pSkarre/dark host, since here ghost fleet has totally disappeared. Anyway my 2-thrones twins list was paired with pAbsy for the lulz, meaning I had to drop them in more games than I expected too (my pAbsy list kinda play bad in my local matchups). I was really surprised by the twins list, it's capable of much more than I thought. It lived long enough in jack spams to grant me good assassinations, could hold on scenario in all games, and now a lot of lists are much more mixed between infantry and heavies, meaning I was equal on attrition in a lot of games. tl;dr the list is more generalist than it looks on paper. Thrones are actually dishing out a fair amount of damage even into heavies and lights, and can take a lot of punition in return. Rhyas is the heavy-killer of course, with help from her BG, and Thrones/Wasps wipeout support and infantry. Twins have been my main list for a year now (I think they might be our best warlock in my local meta), and I now consider the double-throne version to be my official list in tournament. Very solid, very fun. I'll be pairing them with Anamag/PT for the next months since I think this should cover each other quite good.

It can reach really far and with the battle wizard sometimes even to the support model. It normally deals enough damage to overload the Deathbound of the Revenants and as long as it has Banishing Ward, it's very unlikely to ever die to the pirates. Keep Occultation on the twins, because assassination will be the Cryx player's best option, but impossible when you have stealth. Zuriel is also a good addition because the sprays can also wreak some havoc.
