Everywhere, someone has to throw in that Hellmouth must be a species close to Throne. Not so.
Yes, there is a maw and yes, there are tentacles. So what? Almost all the beasts in the game have prehensile upper limbs and a pair of lower limbs, and they are vastly divergent. Take it one step further, and one may conclude that Carnivean is related to Titans and Nephilim to Gryphons.
Do note that Hellmouths maw is armored with chitin, that it has four lobes, and the tongue is just another tentacle, while Throne is not armored, comes out of skin folds (foreskin-like, eew), has an upper and lower jaw and its tongue is an actual tongue.
Hellmouths tentacles have a gastropod-like foot, chitin only on the ends, with a few jutting teeth, and the spike at the end is hook-shaped. Thrones tentacles have no foot on the underside, have continuous chitin scales on the upper side, its spike is straight, and there are no teeth.
Fluffwise, Hellmouths have been around since Morrdh era, while Throne is a new creation enabled by the consumption of Pyros athanc, so there is a huge gap between the creatures there as well.
Purpose of the rant is for me to vent, but also to acknowledge the great creativity PPs design team has, which is being spit on every time someone sees the superficial similarities and does the infantile jump to conclusions. Applicable to other models as well.
Rant over

As a slight aside, is the Throne itself inherently magical via its Necrophage ability or is it the mounted sorceress applying a type of mortitheurgy? Also, was it explained how Thrones are made? I know that most spawn come from vessels or warlock blood in general, aside from Nephilim which are born, and the hellmouth comes from weird seed like things, but what about the Throne?

In Hordes: Domination, Thrones are made by simultaneous bleeding of three warlocks (Vayl, Saeryn and Absylonia as the first ones to do it) in a huge vessel. The resulting creatures also has fresh living sacrifices to feast on after its birth, then when sated, it will allow to be dressed in armor plates and ridden by an annointed sorceress, hand picked by Vayl.
The exact link to the creature eating and sorcery of its controller are not explained in fluff, AFAIK.
So one more crucial difference between the two.
