So I think most have us have woken up to the value of the mist speaker for giving out Guidance, but I had a game the other night where I didn't need magic weapons and I didn't need eyeless sight. The scenario had no flags and I realized that I had no further plans for what to do with him and he basically loitered at the back in case I suddenly needed guidance somewhere unexpected.
In hindsight, in that game he was effectively 4 wasted points unless I can come up with some other tactics/plays for him.
So how do you use yours?

It's a contingency piece for when you run into things like kolgrimma or a wraith engine. If you don't face those kind of models it's a waste, but if you do often have fight them it's four points well spend in your standard list.
I fo think Id rather have a naga if points allow it. They ever do though, so this solo is great

Don't discount the other things he can do. Influence isn't huge but could come up in some rare cases. The cloud is more useful. Building a cloud to protect your caster is pretty powerful. He also gets stealth while in it. Its definitely not his main job, but it's useful when you might not need guidance.

Solos never have to loiter. Even if they have no other purpose, they are still a warm body you can throw in front of an enemy heavy in order to give them order of activation issues.

at worst a mist speaker is a cloud blocking the way to something more important.
I take him psuedo religiously with Craelix.
Funny though, I don't hardly take mine in my gator armies. Granted he is auto include with Rask, but that is my least played gator caster.

I have both Minions and Legion. I very rarely included one in Minions even before they were shafted by increasing its cost. In Legion, why? We have magical weapons and eyeless sight in spades.

Cheaper than naga, eyeless sight for casters (vayl!) and children of the dragon.

I have both Minions and Legion. I very rarely included one in Minions even before they were shafted by increasing its cost. In Legion, why? We have magical weapons and eyeless sight in spades. To give eyeless sight and magical to strong models that don't have it, like the throne or craelix. it offers a different way to build answers to certain things than taking a naga, or access to that answer in themes where the naga is not allowed and you don't want to be shoe-horned into playing Oracles, or if you want magical weapons but want 4 points to spend on the something. I could go on, but I won't. Obviously it's a play style choice and preference. But its a perfectly good option.
