Hello gents.
As the fates have conspired, it seems I'm going to be moving to London some time in the next couple of months. This is pretty exciting, coming from Johannesburg's very small WM/H environment.
Can anyone tell me a bit about where / when / how often WM gaming happens in / around London?

I used to play Warmachine at Tanelorn (http://www.tanelornwgc.org) back when I lived in London (England). That was a few years back so I don't know what the status is now, but they have a website and forum so you can get some details.

I'm based on the outskirts of London/Essex and the WM/H community in London and SE is strong although from what I understand the locations have moved around. As Samarai Said, Talorn used to play a lot of WM/H and they were a great bunch of guys. There are a lot of Wargaming clubs in London who play the game. A big number of the guys who played at Talorn are now friends of mine and we now get together in North/East London and play once or twice a week. Wider, just outside London there are loads of SR events etc going on regularly. Feel free to drop me a DM about it and maybe we can hook up when you get over here?

Still gonna be a couple of months before I'm there, but it's nice to get a small feel for it. Really looking forward to seeing what a larger community is like.

You might also want to factor in public transport on the meta.
Getting around London by car isn't always that easy (depends where you start and stop. Someone put a great big river in the middle, which doesn't help). Although the public transport is pretty good, there's no way I would bring a multi-huge-base list if travelling by public transport in London.

I have a really good KR multicase backpack that currently has a 2-list Grymkin pairing within including both the old witch and the death knell, so I'm not super worried about transport. That being said, I'm not sure where I'll be staying, so I can only factor that in once things are a bit further along.

I’m at the other end of the country, but I’ve played against a lot of guys from the Cross gaming club- seems to be a good community there. Also, there’s a pretty big store called Dark Sphere, I’m sure players must meet up there too. Hope this helps, and good luck with your move!

Thanks Tom.
I'm in a hurry-up-and-wait kind of vibe now. We know we're going, but we need the machinery of visas and bookings to turn. I'm really looking forward to joining a large WM/H community - we're lucky if we get 8 people in a steamroller here, MKIII has not been kind.

If you like the SR scene, the Brighton group (Brighton Warmachine & Hordes on Facebook, it's pretty active) have regular SR's and it's a good day out (a little under an hour from London by train). In London, Cross Gaming Club are a good club in the Southwark/Waterloo area, they host SR's above a pub close to Dark Sphere which is a plus. It's a pity you're not in the UK in time for Welsh Masters (happening as I type this) as it is possibly the biggest single event shy of a convention, and probably the most laid back Masters get togethers. Convention-wise, BonesCon, a cross-game long weekend, is the event of the year in the UK, dominated by Warmachine, but with a fair representation from Guildball and Malifaux.

So slightly more info, looks like I'm going to be based in Morden. Is that near Cross gaming club? What options are there nearby?
Honestly I don't mind a bit of travel, but I don't yet understand the cost implications of it all.

I'm not from London (or even the UK), so take what I say with a grain of salt, but having been there a few times, the public transport network is quite excellent. Looks like there is both a train station and (multiple) metro station(s) close to Cross Gaming Club. Morden appears to be less well provided, but Google Maps shows that there is a (relatively) decent train route. If you're going to be living there, I assume you will get some sort of card of subscription for the railway/tube anyway, so I guess the cost won't matter that much.

The Cross Gaming Club meet at the Horse and Stables pub on Westminster Bridge Road, right next to Lambeth North on the Bakerloo line. Coming from Morden you can change at Elephant and Castle, it is then one stop on the Bakerloo line.
The best thing to do is join their Facebook Group, I think they also still have their own forum, I don't live in London anymore, but when I did I had a great time playing there.

Im on the outskirts of London north west side. There is cross in London on Wednesday nights they have 2 gaming sessions 6 - 8:30 and 8:30 - 11 otherwise I heard there is Tanelorn although I have never been. Darksphere used to have a fair amount of players however unless im mistaken the facebook group that was used is pretty much dead and darksphere no longer stocks warmachine it might be possible to meet up there for games as you can book a table for warmachine but I don't think you would fair well just going down there and looking for a pick up game unfortunately.

As everyone has said there are quite a few places in London where you could come an play.
While I have never been there myself Cross Gamin Club is very active, runs SR comps fairly regularly and has very good reports all round.
I'm based up in NE London on the Essex border. There are gaming clubs around our way that play WM/H. Tanelorn WGC has players (www.tanelornwgc.org/) and there is a gaming club in Stratford area. Out my way there are gaming clubs in Romford area that you can also get games in.
There is a good group of us that play out of our friends house, many of whom go to all the big UK competitions so I your interested in getting involved, drop me a DM. I can also put you in touch with a few of them who can give you a fuller idea of where best to play in London.
Also as other have said you have access to all the SR events that happen in Brighton whom I understand to be a great crowd. Also you could drive to many of the SR event that happen Essex, Southend area.
Cheers
