I can't help but feel that the Llaelese theme is missing a relevant Merc unit. Devil dogs are too expensive and don't really do much, why can't the be a steelhead unit or something? Or even the cut throats.

Or even the cut throats. Because CID said no. Unfortunately, the theme is a product of being in the Christmas CID, and thus wasn't focused on to the level a faction specific theme might have been. And because they didn't want steelheads in there because fluff doesn't matter. Steelhead already have 2 (maybe 3 soon) themes and they wanted you to play other models.

Or even the cut throats. Bulk of the llaelese resistance forces in the books are "riflemen" which seem to be poorly armored citizens picking up a gun, which also describes some of the Khador-collaborator forces. Ashlynn also has an entire army of steelheads fighting for her, but it's described as mostly halbs/cav under Cpt. Keller. The riflemen seem distinct in the lack of a "steelhead" mention and that they seem to be under the command of a Lt. Waevyr (a thorn gun mage) rather than Keller. Fwiw I also wouldn't be suprised to see a 3-6 person unit of melee duelists.

That was 12 months ago though. I come from menoth originally and saw this as a cool gateway into mercs. It also has my two favourite casters (Ashlyn and Crosse) so it seems perfect. With Crosse especially I'm liking the idea of choir for mariners to give them the loader and the buff. The problem is that once I've added a second unit (normally cinerators + ua because they're so tough to get rid of) that's only used up 24 points, I throw in two units of gun mages and still in only at 42. It just feels the list needs a unit of chaff to be body blockers and for souls for Crosse. I can do it with DD but that's a really expensive way of doing it. Surely they could have thrown in 0-2 rifles and it wouldn't have swing the balance massively off skew?

We got our toy, the issues were raised when it was appropriate. Nothing can be done at the moment, so you can either have your cake or eat it. You can be optimistic and think more Llael units are on the way, or you can be skeptical/cynical and not think that. Either way, the Christmas CID was the chance to express those issues. I say enjoy what you have, because it could be worse.

Sorry I wasn't meaning to sound salty, I just keep hitting upon this thought when making lists and was wondering if it is just me and the lists I'm trying to make. Obviously it's not just me which is fine, I just thought I might be missing a trick.

We do know we're getting a plastic vanguard soon (dallas has posted a few pictures of it on fb)... Though what we really need is a vanguard/duelist multikit. Prepping for disappointment, but fingers remain crossed.

I played Crosse2 in pom Llaelese last night. Whilst the choir and arm24 cinerators are good the list is woeful. He really needs a cheap chaff unit to power his guns. I think I'm going to be running him in irregulars for the future. Shame as it only felt a cheap unit away from having real game...

Well you can give into insanity for a laugh and try skyhammers as your sheild guards. Yah stats suck but hey something to be said as the ujit has a base 21 inch walking threat. Or more practical take the cheaper infantry temple flameguard and have many arm 17-23 bodies

Lots of bodies, and they bring their own recursion mechanic. Half-way decent ARM after the first one dies, too.
