Hey all! Dwarf guy here, talking about dwarf stuff! Anywho, shoe of all people posted how he had used Gorton to run an Earth Breaker to some efficiency and I've read elsewhere that Ossrum also does the old EB well. What stories tips or tactica do y'all have for making it work? I keep hearing about using Gorton's wall to protect it, but usually my opponent just flys / charges over said wall or shoots it to death... I mean... how much does the wall actually help? And how do you get it to help? And Ossrum, I mean I kinda get the snipe spell making it a decent shooting platform... but have people really been having success with that? And Durgen, good old Durgen... does he have any game? and does said game include said EB? Thoughts?

As i dont have an Earth Breaker (and may not ever puck one up), I can only relate what I've heard. Explosivo from Durgen made the EB amazing. Now, however, I think the other two are better choices. Gorten offers protection with his wall, damage boosts with Strength of Granite and grouping woth his feat to catch large numbers of enemies in one AOE. Ossrum can take bunnies alongside the EB to use Unstopable Force giving them all Bulldozer for the grouping, but that might be stretching things a bit. Snipe and FFE are decent for the EB, though.

me winned the most recent local tournament with double dorfs. i just don't lub dem
dorfs are mostly for comic relief like in the Middle Earth movies
anyway run the Earth baker with derpgen and put red line on it and use it to light blast immune stuffs on fire and run it with Gordon and put a rock wall in front of it so things can't hit in the face. do not run it with ossrum because he gets a lot more use out of everything else. use thor and aiyana and stuff

Hmmmm... I guess EB kinda makes sense with Durgen then. After all, gun bunnies kill things they shoot, same with Avalancher, but EB might not insta kill what it shoots at (which is kinda sad). The extra speed could help position it... but what do you do with the rest of Durgen's spell list? And what do you do to mitigate the damage the EB takes from redline?

So I keep referencing Tenan’s list he built with Gorten, but it honestly opened my eyes a little bit. It uses everything in Hammerstrike to actually make Gorten good, like really good, and it uses models I wouldn’t normally consider. So I’m wondering if Durgen is the same way. I have a game tomorrow and I think I’m going to try;
Durgen 29 - Earth Breaker 38 Siege Crawler 18 Siege Crawler 18 Highshields 16 - UA (free) TAC 7 TAC 7 HAC (free) HAC (free)
HAC get repo and can ignore huge bases because of arcing fire (as can Durgen), Lots of AOE’s for feat, and I’m thinking shields move in until enemy try’s to get to huge bases? Then you prime them and either let your opponent explode or let you get into great position for shooting? Which you can the. Get back into melee with move shoot move? Not sure, but I’m tired and this seems to make sense right now. I have a game tomorrow so I’ll give it a try then!

I tried the list... Durgen just lets me down, and high shields make me sad. Earthbreaker did alright, siege crawler did good, HAC did good, and TAC did good... but man... Durgen... and man... those high shields

get yourself a mk2 card for thor.... honestly the EB days have passed. Mk2 he was beast with thor and old school tune up. i often find that triple driller often does more work.

Mk2 he was beast with thor and old school tune up. i often find that triple driller often does more work. yeah it's nowhere near the win machine it used to be, but it did alright. I would be really good with Durgen... if durgen himself wasn't a steamy pile. It killed a carnivean, prevented zones from being taken, put some serious hurt into a ravagore, and was still kicking and ready to go when my opponent ended the game. Durgen on the other hand... cast redline, and then had nothing else really. I mean he shot, but he still didn't feel like a caster really. More like some kinda shooting solo I took to fill points... and he's the freaking caster. His feat I got lousy dice, so I'm sure that didn't help, he had to use case cracker for the most part (opponent wasn't running much infantry so a lot of Arm 18 Carnivean Chassis), and he just... really didn't feel like he contributed. I know it's another upkeep, but if he had redline and explosivo... maybe he'd feel better? I don't know... either way I give up for the time being.

So much of the convention regarding Madhammer is interesting. He changed a bit since Mk 2. His Fm is interesting, but nothing to write home about. I have very fond memories of Mk2 Durgen beng able to nail a Def 20 target on average dice. I havent really looked at him since Mk3 dropped, minus playing him a little with Gun Monkeys at Captain Con. With the decline of EB and the popularity of the Ossrum Bunny Ranch (damn i love that list) Durgen and Gorten kinda got smoothed over. Early memories of Durgen for me come from another merc player turned PG who left our meta shortly thereafter. He was a Searforge "purist", where i would use the dwarves in the then Four Star and Highborn Covenant contracts. I always wanted Durgen to have Reinholt for the second gunshot, beacause i played him more aggressively and Dougal's minifeat used to give me the range to be a bit more aggressive. One of my first Steamroller victories was with a Durgen list, with Alexia and the Risen and Nyss, both great Primed targets.
So leaning on that gained experience I looked at Durgen again. While I am learning to use Haley3 in a single list right now, I can see where Durgen could play some games into one of the best lists in the current meta. I avoid playing Hammerstrike, because I think Irregulars is the best choice 90% of the time. So here is my initial offering:
Madhammer -Reinholt -Earthbreaker Siege Crawler pEiryss Hutchuck Anastasia Max Nyss Hern and Jonne LnE Max Gun Monkeys
Lots of working parts here, and plenty of space to slot in AnH if you feel the need. So the EB is in the list because it is part of this thread, and i think Madhammer runs it well with Redline and his feat helps. double Huge base can be a detriment at times but also gives nice hiding places. Primed Nyss are a classic favorite. and LnE can punch a hole through some clouds to get some sweet LOS if needed (matched with reinholt to tank a stealth solo or caster). Not getting use out of the reinforcements from the Crawler doesnt really bother me, but you can replace the monkeys with double TAC who also get nice with the feat and can be recurred with the battle toilet. I would run this list with a strong melee/allcomers list that i was familiar with like Gorten in irregulars or Ashlynn or Connie B personally.

Monkey guns = OAC maybe?
As for primed nyss, why not. Whatever would kill them with prime, would also kill them without prime, prime just make them hit harder.
Sorry but durgen Feat doesn't bring anything to the TAC. Having 2 clouds and keep 1 TAC behind near the BE is the best I can come up though.
