As the title says I am new to hordes/warmachine. I have played a couple demo games and I just picked up the battle group box for the Everblight. I've been checking out the army and different themes and I am 100% certain that I wanna run Proteus. I was curious as too what are the must buy models that I should look into picking up. Probably going to look into running Absylonia 2 after I've gotten a decent handle of the game. So please let me know what your guys thoughts are on this.

Forsaken and Shepherds are must haves for the entire faction. Spell Martyrs are must haves for Abby2. Seraphs are must haves, if the theme allows it. Nagas are highly recommended (if the theme allows it), but not required. I’d recommend picking up some blightwasps for abby2. And possibly some more shredders (you can get more easily if you’re able to find the mk2 legion battlebox).

I will second the fury management, forsaken and shepherds are staples.
I would get some kits and magnetize 2 Neraph/Seraph 2 Carni/Ravagore/Scythean 2 Angels
Buy a Naga, it is always good.
This lets you build a pretty respectable beast loadout with a wide arrange of casters.
Abby2 does like the small-based beasts, but they can be difficult to use with other casters. Some people like running lots of blight wasps with abby, but if you are building a collection I would start with one. Abby likes to run in Oracles, mainly because she can take all the models she wants and gets free points for it. Shredders are the most common lesser warbeast, but if you want your purchases to translate well to other casters don't spam them.
If you can get your hands on it the throne translates well into other oracles lists, even if abby would rather have another beast. Her character beast, Proteus, is fantastic but you are only going to use him with Abby 1 or 2. If you want to invest in a unit, hex hunters are good and can be applied to a Children of the Dragon list (their UA bayal is a must). The blackfrost shard has harm, and is also good for expanding in CotD.
As far as solos go Nyss Sorceress and Helion are good in Oracles, but they are expensive. The martyrs are always good, and apply to a lot of lists as well. Legion is easy to build into as pretty much everyone can run a core beast loadout in Oracles. Specializing can be expensive as Primal Terrors, Children of the Dragon, and Ravens each have their own moderatly unique loadout.

Just make sure you don't get a Teraph, unless you want something to practice color schemes on.
