So I just ended up with a bunch of mercenaries, many of which are Llaelese Themed. I'm considering adding to my plethora of forces. Can you build a Llaelese force that is competitive? What are models you need? What other caster besides Ashlynn would be a 'llaelese' caster? This is the list I have come up with so far. What should I change?
War Room Army
Mercenary - New Army
Theme: No Theme Selected 74 / 75 Army
Ashlynn d'Elyse - WJ: +29 - Rocinante - PC: 18 (Battlegroup Points Used: 18) - Vanguard - PC: 11 (Battlegroup Points Used: 11) - Vanguard - PC: 11
Anastasia di Bray - PC: 3 Gastone Crosse - PC: 4 - Mule - PC: 15 Gorman Di Wulfe, Rogue Alchemist - PC: 4 Major Harrison Gibbs - PC: 4 Ragman - PC: 4 Sergeant Nicolas Verendrye - PC: 4 Taryn di la Rovissi, Llaelese Gun Mage - PC: 5
Steelhead Halberdiers - Leader & 9 Grunts: 11 Thorn Gun Mages - Leader & 2 Grunts: 9

That's very similar to an army that I run. It's an okay build so long as you're facing an infantry-heavy army or you're playing a scenario where it's easy for Ashlynn to get up and dominate to score. Mules and Gun Mages can throw and push the enemy out of contesting range, and then Ashlynn can exploit her survivability to play forward and dominate.
I would consider dropping some of the solos and adding a little more hitting power to the army. If you drop Taryn and Sgt Nick you can get a second unit of Thorns. You could also swap one of the Vanguards for a Nomad, which brings a lot more punch to the table. With Ragman, Gorman, and Roulette buffing it a Nomad can do a lot of damage to the enemy for a cheap price, and whatever it doesn't kill you can finish off with Black Penny shots from the Gun Mages.
Ashlynn does fancy having Madelyn or Sylys as they buff her considerably. Madelyn helps protect you if you're playing aggressive, while Sylys gives you a little more range and resources if you're playing defensive.
As for other warcasters, there aren't any Llalese specific ones out there (though hopefully we'll get Gastone2 and Ashlynn2 at some point). Captain Damiano was hired by the Resistance in the game lore, so he'd be a good pick; Drake MacBain is a good 'generic' pick to work for pretty much anyone.

I'll just note that the currently-being-written llaelese novel (due August ish) features Magnus as a character going in with Stryker to liberate Llael. Not sure who else but ord is traditionally supportive of Llael and the Ordic casters are MacBain, Damiano and Bart.
The list looks alright apart from the noted inability to deal with armour, to which I'd add colossals or models which can't be moved.
I also agree that you're solo heavy. Mk3 isn't kind to solo spam. Taryn and nick particularly aren't worth their points IMO.
The skirmish style is very effective when it's effective, but there are a lot of hard counters to it. A couple of nomads will go a long way towards breaking your opponent's toys. Roci is nice but overpriced, don't rely on guard dog as anyone who can assassinate Ashlynn will be able to move, remove or KD a def 10 jack.

Honestly, Ashlynn is not in the best place to play thematically. She likes to run very little and prefers her heavies in the form of Journeyman Warlocks (WE+SJ, R+B). At this point, its a fun list to play into other similar lists, but it has more bad matchups than good.
I expect that to be the case until the theme force/new casters come out.

That hasn't been my experience with Ashlynn. She's not a great warcaster and the lack of theme force means she's playing 20 points down against most opponents (thanks, PP!), but she's average at worst. I've managed to win and place in Steamrollers with the army I talked about in the above post, which is about as much objective success as I can hope for from any warcaster.

Not in any way trying to take away from your statement, but having followed your posts, it seems to me that you would have had that same success (or greater) with basically any other caster. In short, I think its the player, not the list in this case.

Well, I also play awful sometimes and get beat like a drum, so for those games it's definitely the army and not the player... I have some complicated thoughts about the interaction between pieces, armies, and player skill, but that requires a new thread.
