Heya, I see the Legends of Halaak in a fair number of Masters of War lists. I'm not sure I see the value. They definitely don't seem bad, but what's the appeal? What role do they fill in your list?

They kill things dead, do it over large distances with pathfinder, and side-step into 16/15 no knockdown defensive striking formations. They also slam things out of zones assuming they're too lazy to actually kill them. All for a paltry 8 points. Really, it's an exceedingly good amount of work they'll do for their points, and they're pretty hardy for it too. It's more that you should have something better(?) to spend the 8 points on, rather than finding a reason why to take them Edit: Ok, ok, so that was all just guff to justify it to myself. The real reason is the models are amazing, and I like calling them by the nick-names I gave them. Cider, J.D. and Val (which may, or may not, be in homage to another local Skorne player whom I respect.) - all this, plus the image their backstory conjurs makes me put them in every list I can. Which post-themes, is not as many as I would prefer

+1 to above, and though your warlock of choice does matter. Fortunately, most of our stable can tune them up in one fashion or another, and if you can deliver them they can do silly work above their weight class and point value. I particularly like them with Makeda2, for obvious reasons.
On the negative side, I despised their assembly requirements. There seemed to be parts separated simply out of malicious will.I tell myself they are meta theme models, and we get nothing good without pain.

Jump a cat behind something you want dead. Charge it with Cuban Pete. Do a combo smite. Roll >0". POW14+5D6 + knockdown. Ouch. Then attack with the other 2. Then stand there at DEF16 and be annoying. For 8p.

I'm confused. How does Cuban Pete get 5D6? I understand the POW14 on the combo attack (6STR+4POW+4POW), 2D6 base, 1D6 additional for WM, 1D6 boost for the charge and the knockdown due to the slam + bumping into a thunderkitten. Where does the second additional damage dice come into play?

Hitting an equal or larger base or obstruction gets an extra die of damage.

Wow. Cuban Pete really is beast! I just wanna make sure I was clear. A slammed model getting it's movement stopped by an equal or larger base or obstruction... Not Pete hitting an equal or larger base (which is all of them)

While we're here, does anyone have experience with Legends under Defensive Ward + Star Crossed? I've been thinking about something like that so Xerxis can march his army down one board side and still have something that'll hold the other.

The positioning to pull it off wasn't working for me and I changed tack very quickly. I spent more time using Star Crossed to cover DWarded Karax against a charge (Set Defence, y'see) and even that was pretty iffy usage. But that was when I was a much newer player than I am now, and pre-themes. It does look awfully fun on paper tho

He was playing Makeda1 with all the minions-fixins and it was a nightmare. This experience is what made me want to punch people when they cried "broken" at Fyanna2. It's also why I stopped playing her (and largely, Legion in general) So yeah, it's pretty damn legit.

But Makeda1 doesn't have Defender's Ward since Mk3 hit.
