Any suggestion for a nice list to start with if going into cephalyx? More oriented towards learning the (sub-)faction and it tricks than being competitive.

a lot of people will tell you to just play what you like and have fun. i know that is not very helpful but it is how i have chosen to answer your question!

I’ve found double wrecker and sixty drudges with Thexus is pretty sweet. 3 units of each drudge, two overlords units, two monstrosity kits, a couple of agitators. Rounds everything out nicely and gives you the bulk of the “mini-faction”. From there it’s really up to you! I went another two monstrosity kits, and a couple dominators and that seems to be plenty, maybe the crux solos. Honestly after those first bits it’s really up to you!

The 60 drudge list is pretty fun. Going Monstrosity heavy is also pretty decent, and in some cases plays better. I will humbly admit i'm just a mediocre cephylex player, i play them more for the Aesthetic and mine are painted really kick ass well, and i enjoy casters with TK. I personally enjoy Thexus a lot, but have had some trouble getting Cyphon to "click" by comparison. Some people like to play monstrosity heavy by going deep on Wardens because they are very cheap and it can be tricky to chew through several models worth of 36 boxes at arm 17 or more. Some people like to load up on wreckers with a smattering of others, there's lots of ways to do it if you go monstrosity heavy. Some others like a balanced approach. I'd probably hone in one of the three (balanced, monstrosity heavy, drudge heavy) while you figure out how much you want to collect, and aim to really learn how to play Ceph in that way, and then you can expand your collection into the other ways of playing them too. Or screw it, if you have the desire and budget, go whole hog, buy all 60 drudges and 6+ monstrosities, along with the support stuff. Just make sure you like the mini-faction a lot if you choose to do that!
