I’ve been thinking about the new models that will be released for us soon and I’m curious about the Dirge Seers. How is everyone thinking about using them?
Guidance seems great for ranged armies trying to snipe out stupid Gremlin Swarms. It also seems helpful for melee armies that want to get past cloud walls and hit Haley3’s incorporeal ghosts. Hex Bolt seems more situational, and I’m not sure how I’d use this. Perhaps I should ask a Legion player, since I think they have Hex Bolts, don’t they?
Anyway, Guidance seems to be the money maker ability to me. Am I wrong? Will Dirge Seers be useful in non-ranged lists that aren’t aimed at fighting against cloud walls?

I plan to use them with skarre 3 + 2 levies, skarre removes LOS bloking models with her cannons and then you have 2d3 fully boosted shots (guided fire here) that wont care about stealth or incorporeal, for a very good range assassination threat. Otherwise Im not seeing them in other lists sadly, as the theme force that really wants them (black industries) doesnt allow them

I play a fair amount of lists with a Kraken surrounded by lots of melee infantry.
Dirge seers seem perfect for these lists as the Kraken loves the eyeless sight, and the melee troops don't get hampered by cloud walls.
Really looking forward to these, plus misery cages and the gunslinger solo. It's a good time to be in the nightmare empire.

Also you will only get N fully boosted shots (where N is the number of Leviathans) unless you allocated focus. Guided Fire does not boost the damage roll. I agree with your assessment of the themes impacting their usefulness. Grimolf Legion has Hex Bolt on the Hex Hunters (who would've thought?), but those have Battle Wizard and they still don't get that much mileage out of it because of the low range and magic ability 6. I'm eyeing something like this conflictchamber.com/#c4201b_-0Vkt1s1s1skp2Ikqkqkj1_kkkokmknCryx Army - 74 / 75 points [Theme] Slaughter Fleet Raiders !!! Your army contains pre-release entries. !!! Your army contains a CID entry. (Skarre 3) Skarre, Admiral of the Black Fleet [+27] - Leviathan [16] - Leviathan [16] - Leviathan [16] - Satyxis Blood Priestess [4] General Gerlak Slaughterborn [0(6)] Misery Cage [2] Misery Cage [2] Black Ogrun Iron Mongers [6] Bloodgorgers (max) [15] - Jussika Bloodtongue [0(5)] Scharde Dirge Seers [6] Scharde Pirates (max) [14] - Scharde Pirate Officer [4] The Scharde Pirates will probably have to go, because she doesn't have a ton of synergy with them (ARM not high enough that Deceleration will make a difference and she doesn't help the sprays)

Guided Fire does not boost the damage roll. Yeah, I meant with foc allocation. And yeah, we've all had that critical turn in which we roll 2 1s but... 3 levies cost too much for what they do IMO (the levy itself is already overcosted, as is the harrower)

Yeah. This is what I’ve been thinking. They’ll be great for use with Skarre3, or casters bringing Leviathans, or other ranged armies because of Guidance. I can’t see other uses for them. Hex Bolt isn’t really worth it - as Gaming Devil notes, Hex Hunters don’t even get any mileage out of it. I wish they were available for Black Industries for my current Deneghra3 & Leviathans list.
