I'm trying to get ready to finally put some paint on some Gators, but I'm struggling trying to figure out how best to create Swampy bases. Has anyone tried, or has examples of this executed well?
I'm thinking I'll probably need to use some of the 'water effects' products I've seen (I think GW makes one?). How do I go about coloring that? Just mix paint with it? Or is there something more to it?
My experience basing has thus far been very very basic- paint on white glue, stick in some flock or basing rocks. I'm trying to get a bit fancier.

As for water effects on bases: If you want to do just small areas (like half of gator's base -> rest would be piece of ground as i imagine) vallejo still water should be cool the most important is colour you put under the watter effect. Go for some olive green/brownish tone and it should be cool. To get better effect you can put one drop of green and brown ink into it

I'll take a look! Thin layers of paint between water effects might be an interesting effect- I might give that a shot regardless- might add some odd effects that would be kind of cool.
I'll make sure to put some paint on the bottom too- I honestly thought I would have to mix paint directly in- I'm glad I asked before trying that!

In my experience water effects shrink a little as they set; mixing in paint makes this worse because paint shrinks away almost completely as it dries. BTW I forgot to post the final pic of the first base in my earlier post:

I've never used Water Effects myself, but I've heard that you only need to add a tiny amount of paint to tint it- a little goes a long way.
