ah interesting this actually came up recently between a friend of mine and a cryx player and my friend was arguing the same position the infernal ruled, but as it stood they still got the focus. This is like a delayed 2 month later pay off where he still lost the game anyway because of it

I guess I can see the argument either way, and I guess failsafe's abilities probably were not meant to encompass things like skulls of hate, but I still dont like it when they provide flip floppy decisions like that. As written, it sounds like you ignore the effects of having crippled systems. One of the effects of cripped systems for the deathjack is to not gain focus from skulls of hate. But I can see the other argument too, I just dont personally agree with it.

How to improve your Mortenebra2 game:
Step 1: Cross ‘Mortenebra, Numen of Necrogenesis’ off your army list Step 2: Write ‘Pirate Queen Skarre’ in the Warcaster section Step 3: realize you now do literally everything better Step 4: ? ? ? Step 5: Profit

I realize they may be trying to come up with some consistent way to interpret the complex interactions of various rules. However, this is a disappointing ruling. It doesn’t break the world if Failsafe helps DJ, and would give a cool reason to play an underplayed caster.

Actually the ruling has to do with other models. As listed in the core books crippled systems effects are pre listed. Its also a hit to Myrmidons with feild generators. As if they had failsafe they would still lose their guns. Freebooters can not juryrig of their movements gone (magnis 1) combo.
At the end of thw day the systems are still crippled. Skulls of hate was tied to a system in question but not part of that system. I dont think it was a flip flop as the preveious option was never ruled just assumed.
