I was pretty lucky and my last Steamroller and did surprisingly well with Bearka PoD and Madrak1 in BoH (OK, pretty lucky should read very lucky).
I keep thinking back to my second match though and I was put in a really tough spot. Scenario was "Breakdown" and my opponent was rocking Morghul2 with some heavies, two long leash Archidons (?), and two min units of Farrow Brigands with UA. Blind + mortality + prey and I thought, yeah, this is no place for Madrak1. Sadly, I realized I was going to get hosed by Borka's small control range (12" with RB) on scenario.
Long story short, I felt really handicapped by PoD without some kind of unit attachment. How does everyone else feel? I think Bombers and Kolgrimma with her spray can help extend the threat range but what about Doomy2 and other melee beast bricks? Are they still a thing?
I'll weigh in myself and say as along as your first list is a good enough general drop then your second list can be something situational and specialized. I have since switched up Bearka to a SotN build and feel confident that I could pair him with something like Kolgrimma in PoD.

I think if you go with all beasts scenario can be pretty rough but as of late, depending on the warlock, I've been more inclined to forgo the third solo to instead include a self-sufficient minion unit. I've by no means tested every warlock with this but other than maybe Gunnbjorn (because his feat just says "shoot all my minion models please") I feel like its fairly easy to find a spot for a unit like brigands, nyss hunters, or croaks which will provide you a substantial scenario foot print.

I think we are quite hard place cos our only faction unit that do something in PoD is runeshapers, that is not that good unit. A rock-hammer for 3p is not that good deal. I think brigands are best minion unit now available but with croak hunters you can have third free solo and max stone on 28+ casters. And I think that bigger advantage of unit than scenario presence is pure attacks they bring, because most PoD lists will be over-swarmed by infantry spams.

PoD is still viable, but less viable. Borka 2 is probably not a beast caster any more tbh. Im gonna start playing him in SotN in the near future. I think he supports infantry roughly as well (or bad) as beasts, but he isnt bothered by his small control and low Fury as much if you go the infantry rout.
Anyway, casters with large control areas were always more limited by the stone coverage than by their control area. The fact that the stone aura can generally be bigger now for any caster helps you there for sure. Some lists, like my old Grissel 2 and Gunnbjorn variants that focus on sitting back and shooting works very poorly now though. You want to play a list that gets up the board. Hanging back and killing stuff works on some scenarios and means an auto loss on others.
You may have to consider including pieces like gremlin swarms/FGs and possibly an extra unit of whelps to have throw away pieces. You can include swamp gobbers to score round zones if you only have a few points left, or a big unit like Croaks, nyss or brigands if you want an actual unit. Casters like Kolgrima, Grissel 1 and the Grims all support those types of units very well still.
For the last year i basically always played two PoD lists side by side. Now i want one list that is not a brick at least. It makes for a totally different game and it a nice change of pace in general. My recommendation is that one PoD list is totally fine, but on some scenarios you may want to drop your other list regardless of caster match up. Having an "all comers" list to back up your powerful PoD brick is a good idea imo.

It does make me a little jealous of Grymkin. Free gremlin swarms with serenity would be exactly what PoD would love. I sometimes wonder if being able to take the DK for free wouldn't be to over the top.

Going to toss out a hard Maybe? but I think that if you could the DK would become an auto include during PoD list construction instead of being a serious consideration like it is now. Runeshapers being better or cheaper would help substantially
