Morning Kriel,
I have been strugling with my list development and pairing - to be honest I am quite satisfied and sucesfull with my Calandra POD list (SK, 3xEBDT and Mauler) but I am strugling with Cryx infantry type of list. What do you play into Cryx? I guess that it is Madrak1 in BoH, but anything else than that?? How is Madrak1 in SotN into Cryx or what are yours Gunnbjorn / other list into cryx? THX in advance

Cryx Drop

It really depends on what your local Cryx players are running. If then are not running Ghost Fleet then you will not need a way to deal with recursion.
Our different casters each have different options for dealing with Cryx. For instance, Grim1 can offer his feat and can deal with Incorporeal fairly easily while being able to snipe out problem solos.
Gunnbjorn can hand out magic weapons and has ranged RFP abilities.
Madrak1 poses a problem to cryx infantry with his high def between champions and Even Ground.
Kolgrimma offers protection from charges and guns with her clouds and feat and can also do serious work against their infantry with her sprays.
In essence, there are a lot of Troll casters that have decent game into Cryx. Which one works for you will depend largely upon your playstyle and what your local Cryx players are running. The key things to remember are that you will need to have a large number of attacks to deal with the masses of infantry that they like to bring, some way to deny/limit charges, a way to deal with incorporeal and some way of mitigating or reducing their spell casting ability whether through spell immunity or being able to remove upkeeps. Also having some ranged options that can threaten assassination is very useful for putting pressure on their caster.

Normally Cryx have problems hitting things, so high def infantry spam is good way to go. BUT Skarre1 has dark guidance that means infatry hit (nearly) everything and Denny3 can cast multiple mortality every turn. Also Jack spams can also be played and Ashy3 has field marshal Unyelding so even cryx heavies have good arm. (And Carapace, so they wont die to shooting).
So all in all, cryx can be really different (as well as every other faction nowadays) and making cryx counter is not that valid anymore. You make inftry counter, jack counter etc.
But magical attacks are mandatory for cryx counter.

Most casters played in a theme that is not PoD should have some game in to cryx. Many casters in PoD has game in to cryx as well, but that is harder to achieve. Here are some pointers:
1) You probably need to be able to kill lots of infantry. The defensive stats of the infantry will vary depending on the cryx opponent, but generally speaking you will want to be able to clear lots of infantry with low to moderate defensive stats.
2) Shooting is an obvious way to deal with cryx at a glance, but there are LOTS of things in cryx that totally shuts down that plan, so building a full blown gunline that can murder 30 mechanitralls a turn is probably not the best idea, since they might drop 9 jacks with ARM 21 against shooting...
3) you want some magic attacks for sure, but the goal only needs to be that if they run a wraith engine at you, you want to be able to one round it. You do not need to be able to kill it before it comes in to your zone. That is a VERY tough prospect. Thinks like ghost pirates are annoying for sure, but if they make attacks they turn corporeal, and if they do not, then they do not do very much of anything. You do not need to be able to remove the whole unit at range, but it is good if you can clear out a few guys that runs to your zone. The kriel stone will solve most these issues tbh.
4) Many cryx armies will be fast and hit hard. You need something to prevent them from jamming you out of scenario. Beast bricks will really struggle with this issue. Ambushing bears could really disrupt their plans though... Very few cryx armies will be hard to kill if you can get hold of them in melee. Even asphyxious 2 only get his jacks to ARM 19 usually, and if you can get to them, you can probably kill them without too much effort. You do not need to bring your heaviest hitters to handle cryx in general.
Do you have any particular other casters you are interested in. We can probably build a decent cryx drop if you can come up with 2-3 casters you think look interesting and fun...

I've been playing kolgrima in POD with nyss hunters as a minion unit for scenarios. Kolgrima + Mulg makes it very hard for cryx spells to land on important models while, her clouds help a lot in protecting your models (def 16 nyss are pretty hard to hit efficiently), and the nyss plus her spray can clear jams pretty efficiently. This isn't a perfect cryx drop but I've found it to be reasonable into several common lists.
Cryx in my meta is in a bit of flux with the denny1 nerfs imminent so my old drops might not apply as well as they once did but I've also had luck with Gunnbjorn and Grim1 in the past.
Madrak1 BOH or SotN can probably go into a reasonable range but denny1 ghost fleet in its current state still seems like it will do nasty things to it (I may be wrong).

I would prefer Kolgrima in PoD or Madrak1 SotN list. I would like to pair it with my Calandra DefSkew PoD list (SK+3xEBDT+Mauler). I know that I should pair it with Madrak1 BoH Double Champs, but I am not 100% sure I would enjoy that kind of a list. I like beasta and gargans

I would go with Grim 1, I believe him and Axis have the only feats left in the game that still debuff speed and prevent charging, give Denny 1 a taste of her own medicine

I like beasta and gargans Then i guess that Kolgrima PoD is a fine and fun choice. Here is an example: (Kolgrima 1) Kolgrima Stonetruth, Winter Witch [+28] - Dire Troll Bomber [19] - Dire Troll Bomber [19] - Dire Troll Mauler [15] - Mulg the Ancient [22] - Troll Axer [10] - Trollkin Runebearer [0(5)] Northkin Shaman / Janissa [0(4)] Troll Whelps [0(4)] Dhunian Knot [6] Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes (max) [9] - Northkin Elder [3] Note the NK elder. It is VERY good to give you a dangerous assasination as well as making your sprays hurt heavier targets more easily. Turns out that jacks that rely on high-ish DEF and carapace to survive do NOT like being made stationary and suffering boosted POW 14 damage rolls with an extra die dropping the lowest. The important features here is that you present an ARM brick but deny cryx the ability to debuff it, as well as charge it. Your scenario presence is weak though. On some scenarios i believe this to be a bad list, but it does very well on attrition. Many players will swear by it against cryx.

This is my Kolgrima list and I've been having a lot of fun with it. It doesn't go for the third free solo but I find the inclusion of a unit like Nyss hunters who can benefit from her spell list and feat to be extremely useful on scenario and dealing with swarms of infantry. conflictchamber.com/#c7201b_-0bj10r9Djp0hjq6R75fp0li-Trollbloods Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] The Power of Dhunia (Kolgrima 1) Kolgrima Stonetruth, Winter Witch [+28] - Dire Troll Bomber [19] - Dire Troll Mauler [15] - Mulg the Ancient [22] - Troll Axer [10] - Trollkin Runebearer [0(5)] Troll Whelps [0(4)] Cylena Raefyll & Nyss Hunters (max) [19] Dhunian Knot [6] Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes (max) [9] - Northkin Elder [3]

Thank you very much. I was planning to try this "KoldBombs" list and if you are telling me this has some game into Cryx then I am happy to try it out

Do you have an idea what kind of list can counter skarre 1 DH with BE ? In my mind there is nothing, it's just a no match. Dark guidance is doing the work, stalkers counter all of our rules (no tough, no heal, they threat 13" without charging, def 15 arm 18 on skarre's feat is hard, blessed), banes can easily one shot a champion, BE ARM 23 need high magical pow champions aren't enough

That seems like a rough match up that I've never played but I still probably drop Kolgrima into it. She doesn't care about arm 23 banes, stalkers don't like losing pathfinder for a turn with as much terrain currently on the table, and at arm 18 stalkers still don't like getting punched by a troll beast.

Can you explain not caring about arm 23 banes? Even with the cold stone and dark power, that sounds like boosting territory, which will vastly reduce her personal effectiveness.

I would guess it's is because of Cursed Fate, Auto 1 damage.

It's the battle engine (BE) which have arm 23 with skarre's feat, not the banes I agree that cursed fate is a good tool against banes, but it won't be enough to win the match. I have a regular opponent who take 2 BE in his list, it's a real nightmare to deal with lol
