I dabble in Circle Orboros. Currently I have no Minions units and I note that Secret Masters seems to encourage taking one (although that list seems ... badly designed). Anyway, it does have me thinking about what Minions units are worth owning for a Circle player. Also, the recent buff to Croak Raiders made me wonder whether they might start seeing a Mk3 revival in Circle.
What Minions units do you take, if you take anything? With which casters? Why?
And, Happy New Year!

Ok so I’ll start with Units cuz it’s a smaller list Units Farrow bone Grinders: Craft talisman and Cheapisjh bodies for souls are really good with Wurmwood. Range 12 stranglehold’s are a great way to save Fury from having to use Cassius and dark path away! Gobber bellows crew: Easy concealment for cheap and a unit to help score a Zone. Also kind of annoying to remove because they are Def 15! They are good at helping our casters stay alive or triggering prowl on casters/Stalkers., solos. They have been surprisingly versatile for me! Lynus And Edrea: I used to use them back before themes because reeves could scalpel cortexes with curse of shadows and applied knowledge. Edrea has a lot of potential for cloud removal but it is kind of niche. Farrow Valkaries: Tough, hard hitting shield guards. In secret masters they can basically do unlimited shield guards to our casters which is kind of fun. I think they may be the best line infantry option for us. Now for the much larger list Solos: Hutchuck: oh boy! My favorite solo in minions. Ambush gives him great versatility. Quake bomb lets Him hunt down key models, or assist you in taking out a high Def targets or clumps of infantry. His rust bomb is excellent for us to help kill jacks. Giving most of our casters a potential +4 Pow swing on a jack of choice. He also makes for a great contesting piece or flag Scorser. Mist Speaker: Eyeless sight on a stick. I think this speaks for itself. Feralghiest: Incorporeal contesting piece. Great at scoring flags as well! Grymlin swarm: best contesting piece for your buck. Stealth and incorporeal is amazing. Gobber chef: Super cheap, great for when you have 1 Point left over. Also has cute Fury management shenanigans because he can feed Manikins to our constructs. Alten Ashley: Grevious sounds on a long ranged stick. Kind of pricey for his cost but can really tack Damage into beasts. Lanyssa: If you want her, take her for the “winter storm” Spell. Removing flight, eyeless sight, and pathfinder in her command can be super clutch with casters like Wurmwood. Ogrun Bokor: An excellent shield guard. Arguably better than the Wold wight as a shield guard. Arm 18, and tough, combined with client is a pretty potent combo. He only has 6 less boxes than a wight and isn’t as scared of Boosted Pow 12’s. Wrong Eye and Snapjaw: Star crosses and a decent heavy warbeast in’s a hard to remove package. We typically outpace them which is kind of sad, and 8” star crossed bubble is hard for us to use.

Don't forget the Croak Raiders! They were extremely good at the end of MK2. While I'm sure we'll see some revival with them gaining some hitting power and a reduction in cost, the limitation seems to be the fact we can only bring 1 unit. Having access to 2 would be insane again (Wurmwood and Raiders work together perfectly - he protects them from retaliation, they provide easy access souls since they are a ranged unit and Wurmwood provides an additional ARM debuff). A single unit is nowhere near as oppressive and Circle lacks other sources of fire damage (and our best source, the Celestial Fulcrum, already has access to boostable attacks). It's worth putting on the field to try but not for me at this moment in time since I'm having too much fun with other things.
Several big changes happened whereby nearly all buffs only affect friendly faction now so I think it's safe to say Wurmwood is the most Minion friendly Warlock we have - his feat doesn't care which faction you are. The weakness is that if you really want to use more minions (and with Wurmwood it is VERY compelling) you miss out on theme benefits and I'm not sure it's worth it.
When list building for me personally if I have a point left over it's a Gobber Chef. 2 points it's a Gobber Bellows Crew (Warlock dependent here - sometimes you get more value from a Gallows Grove). 3 points is a Gremlin Swarm. Any more than that and it might as well be a FF solo or CA to a unit. Getting the most from themes usually means not running an expensive minion unit, though Minion solos can make it in there for their additional utility.

The thing is newangel why not just take Bloodtrackers instead? Damage wise they hit about the same because the trackers are always “boosted” and prey counteracts the pow difference. Threat wise, the trackers are 2 inches shorter but have a better defensive statline with +1 Def and stealth. With Nualla you can even spread them out more than croaks making them less susceptible to blast Damage. They also are FF with all the advantages that come with that. If secret masters gets changed to allow us to take 2 minion Units then I can see croaks being a potential thing. Heck, maybe we’ll get fire type attacks released through Blackclad a later! But right now as much as I think croaks are good, I think we don’t support them or benefit them well enough to burn 16 points on them.

These are all helpful suggestions. Thanks! I’m still building my collection, but I wanted to think about Minions as I did so and which ones would work well in multiple themes. It sounds lke Wurmwood is likely the most Minion friendly caster (in terms of taking units at least). Otherwise, I’ll want to pick up a few more solos. I have a few of the ones you mentioned, but it really sounds like I need to get Hutchuck.

Pretty soon the Spirit Cauldron will be available and I think it will be popular in lists with Kromac or the Deathwolves.

@macdaddyif taking Bloodtrackers then that means 1 of 2 things currently. Either you are running the Tharn theme or not in theme at all. Within the Devourer's Host Bloodtrackers definitely have an advantage (free points, FF buffs and all that) but when running out of theme I think there is a case to be made for both units and IMO Raiders win out. Bloodtrackers are FA1 while the Croaks benefit from more of them being put on the table. The extra range isn't insignificant when the target you are removing may mean you are actually out of charge range of others behind it. And damage wise it can be a challenge to pick the right Prey for the Trackers and then have it in a position for them to attack. Blast damage may also be survivable with the slight armour difference too (not saying that they have better defensive stats since DEF14 and Stealth counts for a lot, but into blasts I'll take ARM13 over ARM11). Another *possible* advantage that the Raiders have is that they can be input into any theme where new releases might make them even more viable. Just my thoughts - both units offer distinct advantages and disadvantages but IMO both can get work done and not really have a large lead over the other in general.

I use a unit of Pig Brigands them in my current Call of the Wild list. I find they are pretty independent and give me a unit in an otherwise unit strapped list. I wouldn't run out and buy them but you can find them cheaply as the second half of CoI or I'm borrowing the unit from a friend.
I consider the Totem Hunter an excellent piece for contesting, solo hunting if you have points. I almost never get him into my current lists but he is a piece that fulfills his role well. If you find you need that role filled, he'd be worth considering.

Hutchuck was the first solo I bought, I like playing him to keep opponents honest, although I cannot ever remember the ambush at the beginning of my turn

Guys what do ya Think about nyss hunters? There pretty good at a lot of things but not usually great enough at anything to warrant their cost and being non-faction. Also, the models are dated and frustrating.
