So with my happy little christmas purchase out of the way, I now have enough trolls to put together two whole lists! Based on what I own, here is what I'm thinking of playing: | Trollbloods Army - 74 / 75 points [Theme] The Power of Dhunia
(Gunnbjorn 1) Captain Gunnbjorn [+28] |
|
[*]Dire Troll Bomber [19][*]Dire Troll Mauler [15][*]Dire Troll Mauler [15][*]Dozer & Smigg [18][*]Trollkin Runebearer [0(5)][/ul]Janissa Stonetide [0(4)]Troll Whelps [0(4)]Troll Whelps [4]Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes ( max) [9] [/ul]Trollbloods Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] Band of Heroes(Madrak 1) Madrak Ironhide, Thornwood Chieftain [+29] [*]Dire Troll Mauler [15][*]Trollkin Runebearer [0(5)][/ul]Fell Caller Hero [0(5)]Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes ( max) [9] [/ul]Trollkin Champions (max) [16] [/ul]Trollkin Champions (max) [16]] [*]Trollkin Sorcerer (1) [3][/ul]Trollkin Fennblades (max) [15] [/ul]
[/tbody]

[/tbody]
Madrak1 serves as a good all comers melee list thanks to his high DEF troops and lots of hard to kill champs. The Gunnbjorn list has a very strong ranged presence and should be able to run pretty hot at range with two units of whelps to keep fury under control until I need to smash face. In both cases I feel like I'm missing an Axer because of how useful Rush is as an animus. The extra threat range would be great to have but I have no idea what to remove. So if anyone has thoughts or suggestions, please let me know

Well i run this madrak list
Madrak 1 (storm of the north) (-29pts)(0/75) - trollkin ruinbearer (free) - Dire Troll Mauler (15pts) - Dire Troll Brawler (16pts) - Troll Axer (10pts) Battlegroup+solo (12/75)
Trollkin Champions max (16pts) -Skaldi Bonehammer (free) -Trollkin Sorcerer (3pts) Trollkin Champions max (16pts) -Trollkin Sorcerer (3pts) Krielstone Bearer and Stone Scribes min (6pts) -Northkin Elder (3pts)* Units (47/75pts)
Fell Caller Hero (5pts) Trollkin Champion Hero (5pts) Trollkin Champion Hero (5pts) Solos (15/75 pts)
Total army 74/75 pts.
Yes you lose the fennblades due to the theme force, but the way it makes all your solos and units northkin allow the Northkin Elder to shine.
The elder brings a +2 str buff, or a +1 speed buff, or a +2 cold damage roll buff. The last one not so food as i dont have cold typed damage. Yet this seems to max out champions as best i can especial having two units ether charging 10 inches at a p+s 12 melee or charging their standard 9 at p+s 14.
If anything with your orriginal list id say try to get the original stone scribe elder soaly for a +1 melee dmg buff or immunity to continous effects

How might your Madrak1 list fare against your own Gunnbjorn1 list? Just curious in theory. DEF 14 Champions might still be eliminated via ranged attacks, 5 per turn vs that degree/type of shooting. And there is even better ranged skew from some WM opposing armies.
In my games, I've found Champ DEF-skew via SSC/B2B abilities have shown greatest survival to delivery when fielded with Calandra1/Star Crossed, and whose Feat also acts as accuracy/damage buff. I have not liked fielding Champs against spread-out 25+ opposing infantry, often with significant Weaponmasters which I'm seeing a lot of lately, since Champs anti-melee DEF buff is predicated on crappy B2B positioning.

Well I'm not sure how Madrak would fare against Gunnbjorn in this case. My plan was actually to use Gunnbjorn as my anti-ranged drop due to his feat and wall spell. Against a heavy metal style army Gunnbjorn should be able to handle himself just fine. Two maulers in the list give it a lot of melee punch. I've used a slightly different Madrak1 list to good effect against ranged armies. The fennblades ability to get upfield and jam is clutch in that case but I've handled it alright so far.

Both lists look solid to me. I prefer having some more scenario presence with Gunny, so i change one Bomber and one Mauler to two EBDTs whom are superb with Gunnys Wall. Then it is probably enough with one set of whelps, and by dropping the second set you can now afford a unit of DK, a feralgeist and a unit of swamp gobbers (to score).
Minor changes. Your pair should be solid imo.

I don't own any EBDTs yet, but they're on my list. So for now I'm kinda stuck with what I have, but I am excited to put it on the field.

I like trollocks suggestions, and agree that it’s a good pair- the only things madrak doesn’t really want to see are gunlines and Cryx, and gunny should have a good game into them.
I think the gunny list would be much better even if you just swapped a mauler for an earthborn and added in a unit of swamp gobbers. Maulers are great, but the utility of the earthborn is really nice, plus, like trollock said, the wall is good with him. He’s also a point cheaper, so the point you have left over gets you some gobbers, who are very handy for scenario play.
The other minor change I would consider is swapping the whelps for a bog trog mist speaker. He’s an extra source of magic weapons (not essential, as you have explosivo, but still nice), and lets you ignore clouds and stealth.

The lists you have are very similar to what I'm building towards. The only difference in mine compared to yours are as follows: Gunny - traded 1 bomber and 1 mauler for a MK. Kill shot with the MK is pretty awesome. Madrak - I only have 1 champ brick and bringing double warders for delivery insurance But, yes my friend, we'll done. Would like an update from you after you get them on the table

Would like an update from you after you get them on the table I used Gunny against a Grymkin list last week and lost on scenario because there was just too much ground to cover. In a different steamroller scenario I might have been able to win on attrition, but I could contest like I wanted. Going to try the list again tonight and see how I do. I'll try and remember to post an update.

I played Gunnbjorn into a Goreshade2 Infernal Machines list. I went second, but was able to keep my list all together tight and keep the stone fueled thanks to Awaken the Stone. My opponent brought lots of Bile Thralls, two Pistol Wraiths and the Hellslinger. I was unfortunately charged by two Soulhunters, but managed to survive their attacks and remove them (though not RFP sadly). I was able to put Gunnbjorn's feat to very good use and keep him safe as I advanced up the field. I ended up winning on Assassination at the bottom of turn 3 because my opponent left a focus-less goreshade within 12" of both of my bombers.
I think that I need to drop a mauler to pick up an axer and a Mist Speaker. Eyeless sight and additional Magic Damage is something I think will be important going forward. The threat extension from the Axer is something I really miss in this list. I feel like I struggle to have a lot of board presence without it. I'm trying to decide if I need two sets of whelps or not, I do use a lot of them, but if I move the points around a bit I could squeeze in a Dhunian Knot, which might be better. I'm not sure though.

How has your Dozer and Smigg performed in the last 2 games?

How has your Dozer and Smigg performed in the last 2 games? Very well, generally speaking. He usually has Snipe on him for 18" of shooting. At first, I wasn't sure I'd want him getting into melee, but he can handle himself well in melee and being able to squash something means he can fire off two shots per turn. Auto-boosted blast damage is also nice. I don't like having to force for the animus so much and I really wish he didn't have innacurate, but overall I think he performs great with Gunnbjorn.
