Just purchased a mini-crate subscription specifically for the Ashes to Ashlynn model and I REALLY want to get some table time in with this glorious sculpt ASAP.
My problem? I have a limited pool of mercs (Read: Bart, 2 Mariners, 1 Mule, max Sea Dog unit +WA, 2 Deck Guns, a couple solos, and the MKII Magnus1 Battlebox)
So, I'll be needing to build a list for my newest caster. If like it to be a standard 75 points. The only experience I have with her is her Battle College entry. I know I want her in Llaelese Resistance. But from there I'm at a bit of a loss.
Do I go Choir of Menoth ... or Trenchers with Gibs for a smoke wall? What about my battlegroup? Help?

I am dubious as to the value of Choir in Resistance over other options. Merc Jacks are for the most part pretty decent and costed appropriately, however they still require a fair bit of caster help. Casters that are good at this are usually ones that can provide some sort of battlegroup-wide buff, Unyielding with Magnus 2, Batten Down the Hatches with Bart are examples.
Mercs do not have any 'premier' ranged light jacks like the Charger, therefore building a gunline to use Caines 3 feat, or Fire Group from Gastonne 2, is pretty much a non-starter, yes the +2 damage from the choir is nice, but you are starting on such a back-foot that it is not worth it.
Ashlynn might be a potential candidate, Admonition is great, Chosen Ground is nice, however neither of those spells lend themselves to large battlegroups like say Batten does. Combine this with the fact that Resistance gets free slots for taking units and solos, and that Ashlynn is focus strapped means that Ashlynn probably just wants a couple of heavies (I would go with Manglers for the free charge)
As I am Cygnarguy, I would unsurprisingly go for Trencher Infantry, Quicken and Gibbs lets them move up 8", drop smoke and repo back. I would pair it with Storm Lances, have a pair of Manglers for the battlegroup and then season with all the best solos and probably a unit of Thorn Gun Mages

leotherat: I saw the title and read the first post, but didn't realize the discussion would actually be about Ashlynn in Resistance. Thank you. 36cygnar24guy36: Would you take all of the unit attachments for the Trenchers? Would Steelheads be worth the points here? One, two, or 0 Thorn Gun Mage units?

I would definitely take the Officer and Sniper, grenades are fine if you have the points spare. You can't take steelheads in resistance (sergeant Nic is very sad), I would want at least one unit of Thorn Mages, with vet leader they get to rat 8 (10 if they aim) black penny shots can clear off anything naming the Trenchers, or they are good at finishing of Jack's and beasts if they go double barrel and black penny

I'm dumb. I saw your list on the other thread that mentioned you'd take a second unit of Thorn Gun Mages, but do you think the 6 points spent on Trencher grenaders would be better spent on other solos?

I would prioritise the solos over the Grenadiers, and would probably take the Thorn Mages over them as the Thorn Mages provide quite a lot of utility

Is there a particular reason to bring the Buccaneer?

yes because 3 is more than 2. more is more, especially in lalalese resistance
the buc is there because crosse is rat 6 with ashlynn, he adds more focus to the list, he has to bring something and a 10" net is goog.

In a vacuum people will advocate for the Mangler because it does a lot for those extra four points, but as Shoe says more is more. The thing I've found is that control effects are a lot more potent when you have one less heavy on the board.
I'd play around with a Talon there (you're a point down anyhow) in that list over the Bucc. Perhaps even putting the Talon onto Ashlynn and a Nomad onto Gastone. The Gastone Nomad can be your further forward model that either gets fired and forgotten about or takes the brunt of your opponents tools for dealing with heavies. Reason I'd advocate for a Talon on Ashlynn is with admonition and Chosen Ground, they're little dickheads to deal with against Warmachine. No knock down, admo movement, and a stationary stick that can run and engage enemy heavies.

Would it be possible to take a Cygnar jack via the Arcane Tempest Gun Mage CA? Or would that have to be a merc jack?
