unded , you're right that she probably only needs 1 node and I was thinking about cramming Darragh in, but like I said, I haven't played her much yet and I think she's one of the casters that gets the most out of the Withershadow Combine. You're basically using DJ as a worse version of them, because he needs to pay for the cast and doesn't give a free upkeep or reroll. Especially the reroll can be important when going for personal assassinations and getting that Scourge and/or Mortality off. DJ is doing a couple things that the Combine is not: 1) When Denny is feeling confident, he's actually a great target for Grave Wind. That goes a long way to getting real value out of his overpriced arse. 2) His mortality casts are boostable 3) His mortality casts can get up a lot farther than the combine, allowing for starting up the soul train a turn earlier. It's not an easy choice, I'll grant that. I just value the order-of-activation shenanigans so highly with Denny. (I'm in the same boat as tiberius - I really want to love her. I own her, I've painted her... hell, I even have 4 painted Helldivers as a leftover from MKII, but I just cannot justify her incomplete package as is. The souls just don't do enough to justify her badly empty card, and the addition of power-up only lowered the value of those souls) -und_ed I completely agree with you. Deathjack does bring different things, but remember that WSC Mortality are pseudo-boosted because of Puppet Master if you really need it. And, if you don't take DJ, I would be taking Nightmare + WSC, so it's a tradeoff, albeit an expensive one as well. But it's indeed one or the other.

Yep, and it's a difficult trade-off as well. In BI you can bring either one (I still prefer DJ), thanks to Carapace. In IM you're gonna have to dedicate at least one (preferably 2) brutes to protecting DJ else you're gonna get your 23-point paperweight shot off the board. That's a liability worth considering as well, since stealth is much more valuable without Carapace (so one point in favour of Nightmare).

You guys have convinced me that Deathjack would be good with Denny, especially in BI. I did try a melee BI with both him and Nightmare a couple of times. It worked well, but I ended up moving toward a more ranged BI (the current list) and ended up dropping DJ. Perhaps swapping out Nightmare (and moving around some other points) and putting DJ into the BI list would be a better move because of his potential ranged threat with spells.
Nightmare feels like a better fit for my IM list. His stealth with Denny3 will protect him vs. ranged (as Unded says) and he’d make a nice reserve melee beater in that list, if he replaces the Harrower. That list does lack punch and I don’t really need the Harrower for soul collection in IM. Denny has a great melee threat range, but her low POW (on herself and on her weakling dragon) means that she doesn’t find it easy to kill hard targets, which is where Nightmare could help.

Now that we're discussing it more, I'm starting to come around on Nightmare for IM. If nothing else just freeing up some points that could become a stalker could be worth it, then you have 2 stealthy 'jacks to make life difficult for your opponent.
Let me know how games go, gents. I'm really interested to hear how they pan out, but I'm on a big Grymkin kick at the moment and don't see myself playing Cryx again for at least 3 months.
