I like the look of that Grim 1 list BFT. What does it NOT want to see across the table? Looks like maybe a lot of heavy shooting would be bad. Great in to a lot of melee lists I can think of though. And with the Shaman that's a lot of sprays for infantry... And Grim can see through their clouds. I was reminded yesterday that those 8 points could also be a Swamp Troll. That is correct. Grim can't do much against a full gun line, but that's about the only thing that he just can't handle.

Honestly, I think that Grim is going to be a LOT easier to learn than Kolgrimma, and you can always find a Grim model for cheap on eBay. Seriously, like as little as $9-10 USD shipped. If you're sure you are not interested in Grim, that's fine, but I think he's sorely underrated and several of us here can give you some pointers. His design has an elegant simplicity to it that I really like. Grim is often very strong, especially in cases where most of our warlocks can really struggle, like against Irusk with Kayazy or many Legion armies. Grim1 is really great at shutting down melee lists with fast high defence models. With a few guns he can put a serious hurt on melee lists. His feat works well in SotN, Bears are great because people try to spread out to avoid the feat, allowing the Bears to ambush and charge stuff easily. Return fire is slso a great spell to cast on the Hooch Hauler every turn as enemies never want to give you a fully boosted 4" AOE in their turn. Kolgrima on the other hand shuts down ranged lists very well and helps to deliver both infantry and beasts with a fantastic toolbox. I think they are a good pair that is worth trying out. As long as you make sure he can crack it with Rage or Champs or Mulg etc, he is also very good against slower ARM skews. That is the logical place to start looking for a pairing within this roster, yes. I will just have to think about what others might be playing. The first question is: Are there any gun lines that can see through Kolgrimma's clouds? There's no Sloan, but Orion has Mage Sight.

I do like this list: conflictchamber.com/#c7201b_-0b590rc6jp0hjqj67d6R0l0mTrollbloods Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] The Power of Dhunia (Grim 1) Grim Angus [+29] - Dire Troll Bomber [19] - Mountain King [36] - Mulg the Ancient [22] - Troll Axer [10] - Trollkin Runebearer [0(5)] Eilish Garrity, the Occultist [5] Janissa Stonetide [0(4)] Troll Whelps [0(4)] Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes (max) [9] - Stone Scribe Elder [3] The last 5 points float a bit but I think I will try Eilish next time. Sometimes I minimize the Krielstone and that makes 8 points for 2x Northkin Shamans. But yeah, this covers just about everything he really wants. I actually own all except Grim1 here so this is a possibility. Could you give a brief summary as to how the list works? In terms of pair, the suggestion is Kolgrimma. Is that in Pod as well or Storm? Also if anti gunline is needed would Borka2 still be good with his Stealth feat and Snowshroud?

toggie You can build Kolgrimma in SOTN just fine, but IMO she needs the Mulg-node even more than Grim does. If I were to build her in Storm it would be with a GK, but if I need her to chase away gun lines, that's not a good idea. As long as at least one of the lists can take down infantry swarms, I'm okay with putting both in POD. And yeah, Borka can drop into a gun line if played very aggressively. As for the Grim list, gdnerd can explain better than I, but mainly just stay ahead on both attrition and scenario at all times, and get as much mileage out of your feat as possible. Play as carefully as you reasonably can and don't spread out too much like I always do. :P Some scenarios basically require that, but your beasts need to be able to support each other. Eventually, you should get a chance to close out the game, either via scenario or assassination. There's just one last major problem with building two lists both in POD, and that is scenarios, specifically Outlast and Spread the Net. On the bright side, we can use Merc Inclusion if nothing else to get a fighting unit into a POD list. Or maybe take another look at Runeshapers.

Thanks for all the advice. I think I'll go with the grim1 list to start as it seems really good.
I can see how funds go then and look at the local scene and pick-up Kolgrimma or Borka depending on how results go.
This has been really useful. Thanks!

I actually like Ragnar in storm
Theme: Storm of the North 3 / 3 Free Cards 75 / 75 Army
Ragnor Skysplitter, the Runemaster - WB: +30 - Trollkin Runebearer - PC: 0 - Rök - PC: 19 (Battlegroup Points Used: 19) - Dire Troll Brawler - PC: 16 (Battlegroup Points Used: 11)
Fell Caller Hero - PC: 0 Trollkin Champion Hero - PC: 5 Troll Whelps - 5 Whelps: 4
Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes - Leader & 3 Grunts: 6 - Northkin Elder - PC: 3 Trollkin Long Riders - Leader & 4 Grunts: 20 Trollkin Champions - Leader & 4 Grunts: 16 - Skaldi Bonehammer - PC: 0 Trollkin Champions - Leader & 4 Grunts: 16
This way you get the new elder bonus, and Ragnar has always been fury starved, so that extra fury is nice. With rock Amd the brawler as a battle group you don’t really need rage, which is always good.

Over Christmas I picked up what I needed and on Friday finally got a game in with the grim1 mk list against the dreamer 3 cage rager list
I lost on Spread the Net. Lessons were
Placement effects like mirage get round the feat very well. Lose the Mk and the ability to break armour drops dramatically. Feat is great locking out of scenario of they don't commit. I did this well but didn't capitalise on the opportunities to score on the feat turn and after.
I got ground down in the end after he spiked on the mk with a skin & moans under manifest destiny. I shouldn't have lost him but it was down to my placement which could have been better
Hope to take these lessons to my next game and improve my placement of models
Thanks to every who helped late last year.

Tonight I played the grim1 list into Sloan.
It was his first game with Sloan and he was running 2 avengers, defender, Cyclone and hunter. He had a charger in Jr, strangrways and full high shields.
Scenario was recon 2.
I got second and so picked side with a house to hide grim behind.
I won the game bottom of 2 by feating baiting an avenger, assaulting with a pow23 king and spraying Sloan dead with the assault and kill shot sprays.
Mistakes were made though.
I moved grim too far up turn 1 and if he was more familiar with the list he would have died.
Avengers knocked down mulg. That makes mulg sad.
So didn't get in my own way but need more practice. Hoping to get to a local steamroller in March with this list paired with Kolgrimma band of Heroes.
I've not cast any of grims spells yet. Do other people find that is the case?

Return Fire on Grim and/or the MK every turn. Man Trap beaconed off a whelp to KD Sloan. And Weald Secrets on the Bomber pretty much always.

I completely forgot about return fire! Thanks.
If Sloan casts it on her jack, it fires at king who return fires at her jack, does Sloan' s return fire kick in?
