I'm looking at getting into COI after retiring from WM/H in MkII. I haven't really kept up to date on MKIII meta, so I'm curious what people consider good. After reviewing the circle models I found the following, and curious if this is the consensus or am I completely wrong.
In general:
Models:
The Wolves of oboros/Reeves/Warwolves have good synergies. I think the Reeve hunter with a couple warwolves will shine in COI without having to dedicate a unit to the list. The fact a min unit of wolves gives you a +1 req cost makes them worth taking.
Tharn Blood weaver & NightWitches are exceptionally strong. It would be nice to take 2 Nightwitches but the req cost would be too high. The fact that an injured role triggers their extra attack, and that they give a -1 on injury roles and remove tough. This looks like it will take out most models they hit.
Tharn Ravengers (unit): look expensive for what they do. But heart eater triggers on injured roles which can make them usefull. Basically will keep hitting a guy who is already on the ground until dead.
Druides: Not too interesting. a little expensive.
BlackClad wayfarer: missing a lot without Shifting stones.
Beasts in general are not worth it, a unit is more versatile.
Tharrn Solos: They look like a good way to bring something a bit bigger to the game without having to dedicate too many points. Heart eater ability has potential.
Lord of the feast: I've played 1 game with him and my opponent forfeited turn 2 just because of him. A couple well placed command cards will make him mean. As my last activation on turn 1, I gave him a free move with a card (outside activation), Used rapid reload to aim and get 2 shots. First shot got him half way across the board in a jacks rear arc, use the second shot to hit a model in his deployment zone. Teleported to its rear arc, then threshered. Killing 1 model, injuring a second. knocked downed a third. Used the hearts to kill a second model. On his next turn his Commander charged me and almost killed him, expect i used recovery to save him. Stood up and threshered again. Killing the last of the original 3, then used a heart to hit his commander again injuring him. After that he was down 3 models and his commander was on his last life, with my non-commander LotF still standing, with a horde bloodweavers just running around his jak... I think he needs to be nerfed a bit.
I haven't looked at the other models since I was focusing on what I already had in my collection (Tharns and Druids). But if you can add more details or experiences I would be interested to hear about it.
In general:
- Most lists need a relatively cheap unit for body count. Too many high point cost models don't give you enough activations. 1 jack or beast will be virtually unkillable but when the game is timed and objective based it can be avoided/stalled.
- COI needs to leverage unit/Solo Synergies. Some of the synergies may not be good enough for a main game, but they become amazing in the smaller format.
- The cards have the potential of turning a weak models into a boosted killing machine. Extra ARM and life is not that strong when any model can easily be boosted and an additional die. Too many models with Req costs actually hurt you too much.
