Squabbles aside, I have to agree on Shae or even Magnus2. Freebooters are wonderful on both: Shae helps deliver them quicker and gives a lot of nice synergy. Magnus2 sees 9 point heavies that he can speed up (escort) and give unyielding to. I think you can stick closer to your original list if you go Magnus2, but either is a good fit.
That being said, I have zero experience with MACBAIN!!! so I am decidedly biased.

His Feat+Coup de Main don't specify battlegroup, meaning a marshalled 'jack can still go 17" non-linear with crazy damage buffs. I'll come back to McBain!!! later. The thing with Magnus2 is that Unyeilding isn't enough in my eyes to keep a Freebooter off the scrap heap, and I prefer his feat to protect guns and lock out opponents from zones and melee retaliation.

Having played Magnus2 with 2 Freebooters many times, I can tell you that they are surprisingly resilient in melee. Even if they don't make it a turn, they are 9 points that take quite a bit to take out. With Shae, they are bonkers fast though, and that list is a ton of fun to play.

Don't forget that his feat also sets up some amazing plays. Instead of just denying entry into a zone, you can force your opponent to move where you want them to. I once caught Zaadesh2 inbetween 2 objectives. He could only move vertically between them. It was hilarious. But I also agree with some of the other sentiments regarding the pirate jacks with Unyielding. For a 9 point heavy, it puts the Freebooter into the realm of the Vanguard which is one point more. I feel that it (with testing on my end) will be a solid choice. I've been running 3 Manglers and 3-5 Nomads on Magnus for a while now, but now that I own 2 Freebooters, the idea of them tag teaming an enemy jack just seems too juicy to pass up, especially with Calamity and Unyielding as options.

Escort plus a Buccaneer hanging back with Magnus2 and a couple of Freebooters up front with a Renegade in between becomes a real conundrum. It's a lot of points on sub optimal jacks, but I truly don't believe you can do better for 34 points than those 4 jacks with Escort and Unyielding.
