Morning all
I've been mulling over a few lists recently now that the theme force is officially in war room.
I've been dojoing and thinking on Rask, his tools, and how best to build him.
Although the theme force provides the obvious benefits to gmp, and deployment and free solos/snappers, it also takes away some key pieces that I feel Rask plays well with : Lanyssa for insane threat extension, Rorsch and Brine for damage output, etc.
How is everyone building Rask these days, in the wake of the power attack rules changes and post theme?
I'd be interested to see lists and dojo. I know he's a real power caster for minions, but as a relatively new player I'm still catching up 😃

Honestly, while the theme force is strong with him, I'd rather have rorsch and brine, lanyssa, and Orrin midwinter in my lists. That easy 16 inch threat on the pig is stupid good, and the ability to take a good reliable unit like Nyss is also helpful. I can't say that I don't enjoy posse with him, or that I think it's stronger to take him out of theme, but if I'm running posse spam with maelok, I need a more balanced list to pair with and I think rask out of theme fits that.

If this theme had come out right at the beginning of Mark III I would likely have been all over it, however, I have gotten use to the extreme threat ranges, armor breaking, and insane versatility of my current Rask list that I just can't seem to get with the Theme.

I'd venture that what the theme gives Rask is significantly more staying power for scenario presence. The additional boxes for the GMP is yuge, 25 to 40 health is a big increase. And having it distributed across 5 models means that they are positionally more difficult to remove than a single heavy.

If Rask if brought out of theme, is it worth attaching targ to him.

If Rask if brought out of theme, is it worth attaching targ to him. Only if you brought a ranged beast or skarath, otherwise I'd wage those 4 points are better spent elsewhere.

OK, so based on my game today with Rask, I need a giant sign that says :
IF IT IS TURN TWO POP FEAT YO!

Ok. So I've been mulling once again. I've been thinking about the lack of infantry in my Rask list, and how best to address this out of theme. My current list is:
War Room Army
Minions - Rasky Business - armour cracking
Theme: No Theme Selected 75 / 75 Army
Fuel Cache - Steamroller Objective
Rask - WB: +27 - Blackhide Wrastler - PC: 16 (Battlegroup Points Used: 16) - Ironback Spitter - PC: 15 (Battlegroup Points Used: 11) - Blackhide Wrastler - PC: 16
Wrong Eye - Wrong Eye & Snapjaw: 17 - Snapjaw Rorsh - Rorsh & Brine: 15 - Brine Lanyssa Ryssyl, Nyss Sorceress - PC: 4
Croak Raiders - Leader & 9 Grunts: 17 Swamp Gobber Bellows Crew - Leader & 1 Grunt: 2

It's a fairly standard Rask list, well designed for taking out enemy heavies, with some good tech in admonition, swamp gobber bellows, and Wrong Eyes star crossed.
What this hasn't dealt with very well is magic attacks linked into assassination- specifically Rask got targeted last game by Tanith who was lowering his defense with the spell affliction. She also had a ranged attack that can lower defence, but I think it's a special case to have a model be able to lower defence in two different ways, so right now I'll focus on the spell denial.
When I've looked at lists in the past, I've taken note that Orin Midwinter is often present, so I added him in, taking out one of the wrastlers.
However, facing circle last night got me to thinking about the armies make up. It's very large base centric, and won't have any problem cracking armour. What it will struggle with is lists with any more than a single unit. Although the croaks did an admirable job of breaking a unit of stones and mannequins, and taking out most of a woldwryrd, once that was done they got picked off, and I was left to deal with a full reeves unit with heavies. Once again, Orin will be great at zinging off clumps of units, but I think there needs to be something more substantial.
I own a unit of the shamblers, and have yet to put them on the field. When I looked over my previous list I can see space for an 11 point unit. Even if not great in melee, they can jam like hell and recursion back off the deaths of the croaks. I had a fiddle, and came back with the below;
War Room Army
Minions - Rasky Business - all comers
Theme: No Theme Selected 75 / 75 Army
Fuel Cache - Steamroller Objective
Rask - WB: +27 - Blackhide Wrastler - PC: 16 (Battlegroup Points Used: 16) - Ironback Spitter - PC: 15 (Battlegroup Points Used: 11)
Wrong Eye - Wrong Eye & Snapjaw: 17 - Snapjaw Rorsh - Rorsh & Brine: 15 - Brine Lanyssa Ryssyl, Nyss Sorceress - PC: 4 Orin Midwinter, Rogue Inquisitor - PC: 5
Croak Raiders - Leader & 9 Grunts: 17 Swamp Gobber Bellows Crew - Leader & 1 Grunt: 2 Gatorman Bokor & Bog Trog Swamp Shamblers - Bokor & 9 Grunts: 11
---
GENERATED : 04/06/2017 14:52:21 BUILD ID : 2039.17-03-16
Design spec: versatility needed in both heavies and units. Strong denial through Wrong eye, general Rask
My question: do you see viability in this list?
Does it have potential in both scenarios and assassination?

I'd say so. You've got three heavies to rip apart whatever the Shamblers are jamming. Plus croaks are beauty at helping with lights, heavies and infantry.

I have found that two wrestlers to be key. Being able to hand out rage at will is huge.
