Played the Jarl list twice yesterday. First game against Legion (Rhyas 1 with lots and lots of swordmen) and lost on assassination. Jarl missed a boosted 5 to hit a swordman, so i couldnt swift hunter back. He landed a crit knock down with his bolt thrower and then got 3 feated Swordmen on Jarl camping 2. I was playing a bit greedy and got punished. Second time i get assassinated (without having gone all in on some last ditch affair first ofc) this year, and against the same player. Bad Trollock! Well with the amount of games we play its bound to happen again To bad its only possible to play Rhyas double swordsmen in CotD and not in Ravens....

I'm sure you will ambush the Bears into a cloud from Jarl's feat every now and then.

I've decided to do this for a Steamroller on the 16th. Got Horgle2 in SoTN and Kolgrima in Kriel company. I was a little limited as I don't have a couple models I wanted to add like raiders or bashers (and won't be able to get them before the tournament) but here's some really basic lists I tossed together while sitting on the John at work conflictchamber.com/#c7201b_-0GgL0r9Dczjq6G6G2Q0n0ki-iZezeziTbK___-0Dj1c604jq2Q0k0m0qfq6t7r6e09Trollbloods Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] Storm of the North (Horgle 2) Horgle, the Anvil [+29] - Dire Troll Bomber [19] - Dire Troll Mauler [15] - Night Troll [7] - Trollkin Runebearer [0(5)] Fell Caller Hero [0(5)] Fell Caller Hero [0(5)] Feralgeist [2] Kriel Warriors (min) [7] Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes (min) [6] - Northkin Elder [3] Northkin Bear Handle & Battle Bears [10] Northkin Fire Eaters [7] Northkin Fire Eaters [7] Trollkin Champions (max) [16] - Skaldi Bonehammer [5] Trollbloods Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] Kriel Company (Kolgrima 1) Kolgrima Stonetruth, Winter Witch [+28] - Mountain King [36] - Winter Troll [8] - Trollkin Runebearer [0(5)] Feralgeist [2] Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes (min) [6] - Stone Scribe Elder [3] Pyg Bushwhackers (max) [15] - Pyg Bushwhacker Officer & Mortar [0(5)] Scattergunners (max) [14] - Scattergunner Officer & Standard [4] Thumper Crew [5] Trollkin Sluggers (max) [10]

Played the Calandra list yesterday (against Morghul 3 with swordsmen and stuff). I went for a knock down assassination on turn 3, and discovered that he was steady. Got him to 1 box through blast damage though. Finished him off by killing his transfer target and blasting him again on turn 4.
The list seems like it has assassiantion potential, and not much else. I killed a lot of swordsmen, but attrition felt very hard to win (he had a unit of cetrati that i couldnt do anything about).
As always when playing calandra, my dice were hilariously good some times, but i did spend my feat on trying to hit an 8 to kill a UA of the swordsmen. I got 6 chances with calandra feat, and failed. Then the blast assassination rolled way lower than anticipated (no feat then). My opponents dice were REALLY hilariously bad though (again, as always) And he missed the WW twice when attacking it with his Sentry (he needed 5s since i was behind a wall). Playing calandra has a big psychological advantage that your opponent can often tilt due to bad dice. You spend 3 fury each turn for him to have extra bad dice, but it often feels way worse when playing against calandra than if you played against Madrak 1 who gives +2 DEF. Madraks ability is slightly more powerful, but the psychological part isnt there and that is showing, basically no matter who you play against. This is one of the "hard to quantify" benefits of playing calandra that makes her work better in reality than one might think.

Played Jarl again yesterday. The list feels strong. The Raiders are not doing very much, except soaking attacks, and giving the opponent a sense that they are actually accomplishing something, when they actually arent lol. Also, bringing in the bears on the flank can really tilt the battle, and that is something many opponents will not count on. They are absurdly dangerous, at least to heavier targets. They arent great against infantry.
I discovered to my disadvantaged that i actually should have ambushed them in on the feat turn, to run and get in position this game. They could have stayed behind a forest and the clouds and been untouchable, but been very relevant on the turn after. My initial assessment was wrong there for sure. Im not saying you sould always bring them in on the feat, but it is an option to consider carefully for sure.
The list hinges on the champions imo. SPD 8 is amazing. It together with sanguine bond makes the unit incredibly dangerous, unlike the "old" champions with SPD 5. Having such a dangerous unit threaten that far, and being so hard to shoot down is absolutely bonkers bananas.
I can heartily recommend trying Jarl, both in SotN and in PoD. He is a delight to play now. He will not cause outrage on the forums for being over powered, but he is WAY stronger than he looks at a glance, and especially he is stronger than us old hands think. He has been incredibly bad for a very long time, and i think he still is outside these two themes, but with the themes, he is more than just playable.

Sorry. Its great to see some one else trying this! Hope you do well at the tournament. I have a few suggestions on the lists if you are interested, based on what you have here. The Basher/Night troll seems OK, but not central. Having two fell callers is not bad, but also not needed i think. You could squeeze some more "meat" in to the list i think. Kriel Warriors are great with +1 SPD from the stone and +2 ARM. They become a really nice jamming/tar pit with IR on them early game. Then you can switch it over to something else. What do you think about this? (Horgle 2) Horgle, the Anvil [+29] - Dire Troll Bomber [19] - Dire Troll Mauler [15] - Trollkin Runebearer [0(5)] Fell Caller Hero [0(5)] Kriel Warriors (max) [11] Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes (min) [6] - Northkin Elder [3] Northkin Bear Handle & Battle Bears [10] Northkin Bear Handle & Battle Bears [10] Northkin Fire Eaters [7] Northkin Fire Eaters [7] Trollkin Champions (max) [16] - Skaldi Bonehammer [0(5)] this is very much just brute force. If you drop either a unit of FEs or bears you can afford more luxuries if you are like that The Kolgrima list has the same problem that almost every KC list risks having. You have a LOT of ways of dealing with infantry, but you have no real staying power, and for ARM cracking you have the MK and... nothing else really. KC is tricky to get right i think, because the ARM cracking issue. Kolgrimma may not really want a huge base (since the clouds dont work on that), but you are sort of cornered in to it. Granted that the Horgle list can handle ARM just fine. Perhaps you could have Horgle cover heavy ARM and melee based lists, and then skew Kolgrimma to handle Infantry spam AND shooting a bit more? Since you probably can not make a full on cloud wall, i would consider a WW (assuming you have it...). It gives more staying power, and is resistant to shooting due to high boxes and ARM. It is still great against infantry, and Hunters Mark is actually very good for it. Then you could have a smaller cloud wall to cover your vulnerable shooting units that hang back. I would drop the Thumper and an Either the Bushwhackers or Scatter gunners and get a WW and possibly try to squeeze in SoBs in there to get some more punch. Hunters Mark is actually pretty damned good for them too i guess. The winter troll might be better as a Pyre, if you have this for your anti shooting list, since there are some nasty fire based shooting lists out there, but that is a very minor thing imo. KC is a tricky one, and in my pairing, i find myself wanting to play Jarl SotN rather than Calandra KC in to almost everything.

Thinking about it a little bit, i see that you will not get 3 free things if you have a MK. If you can downgrade to a GK, you have some nifty options, but as is, there is not really a reason to skimp on the battle group. MK + Bomber gives you some serious punch and still access to 2 free things. Something like this is not unreasonable i think: conflictchamber.com/#c7201b_-0Dj10rc6jq6G2Q0l0m6t7rhUTrollbloods Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] Kriel Company (Kolgrima 1) Kolgrima Stonetruth, Winter Witch [+28] - Dire Troll Bomber [19] - Mountain King [36] - Trollkin Runebearer [0(5)] Fell Caller Hero [0(5)] Feralgeist [2] (or Gobbers) Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes (max) [9] - Stone Scribe Elder [3] Scattergunners (max) [14] - Scattergunner Officer & Standard [4] Trollkin War Wagon [16]

I really like your changes to the the Horgle2 list. I don't own a second unit of bears (trying this thing where I actually have to paint stuff before buying new things, crazy I know) so I might drop them for what you call luxuries Weirdly enough it makes me want to try Valka out since I never put him in lists but I think a sorcerer on the champs, upgrading the stone to max, and maybe lanyssa is more useful. As far as Kolgrima is concerned I always thought she'd make a pretty solid KC list but when I tried to put one together it never seemed to speak to me. I like the addition of the WW because if you're going to be in KC might as well take the best theme exclusive model it alone allows. I played around with the list a bit to see if I could get 3 free models without sacrificing too much punch and came up with this. Usually I think 3 free models in KC is a bit of a trap since its hard to punch hard enough but I think that even without rage this list has some hitting power and will chew up pretty large sums of infantry. conflictchamber.com/#c7201b_-0GgL0r9Djq6G4k0o0li-iZezeziTbKcC___-0Dj1fmjojqeC6G0l0m6t7rcCc8hUTrollbloods Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] Storm of the North (Horgle 2) Horgle, the Anvil [+29] - Dire Troll Bomber [19] - Dire Troll Mauler [15] - Trollkin Runebearer [0(5)] Fell Caller Hero [0(5)] Lanyssa Ryssyl, Nyss Sorceress [4] Kriel Warriors (max) [11] Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes (max) [9] - Northkin Elder [3] Northkin Bear Handle & Battle Bears [10] Northkin Fire Eaters [7] Northkin Fire Eaters [7] Trollkin Champions (max) [16] - Skaldi Bonehammer [0(5)] - Trollkin Sorcerer (1) [3] Trollbloods Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] Kriel Company (Kolgrima 1) Kolgrima Stonetruth, Winter Witch [+28] - Glacier King [35] - Pyre Troll [8] - Trollkin Runebearer [0(5)] Braylen Wanderheart, Trollkin Outlaw [0(5)] Fell Caller Hero [0(5)] Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes (max) [9] - Stone Scribe Elder [3] Scattergunners (max) [14] - Scattergunner Officer & Standard [4] - Trollkin Sorcerer (1) [3] Sons of Bragg [11] Trollkin War Wagon [16]
