Last WTC: first game on sunday ( second day).
For context I had a lousy night, with a major headache/ migrane and stomach issues. Hadn't slept all night and my head was still hurting a lot just by being alive...
I drop vayl2 vs haley2. First turn my opponent goes first... i take a look at the board and after a few measurements we agree that junior is within arc range of sorceress on helion.
I run the helion. I hit the arc node. I use the 10" nuke of vayl... boost to hit. The dice come up 1-1-1. I feat. Free nuke and end up leaving him on 1 hit box.
My brain shuts down and i forget to put occultation on vayl.
Next turn the game was over. I apologized to my opponent for such a bad game and went on to enjoy the rest of my migrane.

Lanyssa missing a hunter's mark against a mountain king because of Madrak1's new spell was very sad.

I remember having such problems at Warhammer tournaments when I was younger. I think it was due to the mix of the brain working very intensively and me not having time to eat (actually there was time, I just kept forgetting due to excitement etc) Once I started taking a lot of carbohydrate-heavy food to tournaments, those problem disappeared at once. Brain trying to cope wth a complex wargame needs sugar. Lots of it! I normally have a fitness-oriented diet, but if I go to a tournie I take a break from it and don't feel bad about eating chocolate bars and sweet rolls (or even - gods forbid!!! - drinking some coke !) during the day. In addition to a proper meal during the afternoon break of course.

A grymkin rattler killed an entire unit of sentinels on top of 2 after i had only left 1 in charge range and the unit was fairly spread out.

Can I ask for your best 40k story then? I didn't care that much about wh40k but in Warhammer it definitely involved one of my most hated mechanics in the game - Ld tests and psychology (aka toss a coin to see if you lose the entire unit or not). I've got a few stories from both sides of the table - a destroyed unit, causing others in the vicinity to panic and flee, they flee through frindlies, panicking them in turn and then failing to rally and going off the table... Any game which had such an event in the opening turns was bound to be a nonsensical one-sided affair. Thank you, PP for killing the CMD tests in mk3! Special mention goes to 6th edition Comet of Cassandora covering most of the table by turn 6 ;] Oh warhammer fantasy has some of the best painful/hilarious moments in all my wargaiming. I play skaven...so that should be a nuff said Had a game where MY doomwheel got shot by an arrow, rolled for out of control, hit an obstruction and died, in my shooting phase, my warprifre thrower, and both poisoned wind mortars exploded the thrower hit my doomwheel, which went out of control, into my opponents lead belchers but only had 1 wound remaining, went through a pond, died to dangerous terrain lol. The one warolightning cannon misfired, shot the other cannon with the spin wildly result and killed it rolling a 6 for the mutliple wounds. It proceeded to blow itself up the next turn. Then my screeming bell blew itself up. All in one game no joke...at all I almost died laughing. Skaven are awesome. As far as warmachine, I had a game back in the begining of mark 3 where I had plans to score 3 with mohsar in one turn against hale 3. Back with SR2016 so all I need was 2 more points to win after that. I failed to kill a trencher in a cloud with: 1:Mohsar spray and crevvasse both boosted 2:Blacklad wayfarer spray 3: Manikin spray boosted 4: Loki using his hook to drag and missing a boosted 7. I proceeded to lose horribly.

To be honest i blame the belgian tradition of frying everything and not being a young man anymore and eating a lot at dinner. Only at the last game of sunday was i at 100%...

I once had an entire Chaos army flee from 6 rats (not even the big ones, regular sized rats), because some guys whiffed in combat and fled as one of their comrades got eaten. Whenever you think current WMH has bad rules or balance, just have a look at the past. As to WMH, there was a game in early Mk3. My Skorne into his Khador. First let me state that my opponent was a really nice guy and the unpleasantness of the game in no way originated from him. But it sure did from the matchup. It was Mak3 with beasts vs Vlad1 with 1 unit of Rockets and ranged jacks. The only roll I got to make that game was the starting roll. Everything else just died on the way in.

I remember a very pain moment for my opponent.
I was at the Welsh Masters. And my B3 list was getting absolutely smashed by Broadside Bart.
However he was mulching through his clock like no tomorrow, but he has a few minutes left and the Galleon is staring down Butcher.
He declares that the Galleon is aiming and starts shooting, only to realise that Butcher is only in 1 of the front arcs and he can't fire the harpoon gun.
Butcher survives on a box, then he runs behind a forest and I win on clock.
It was a victory I should never have had, brilliant opponent though.

Back in mk2 i feated and delivered a massive alpha strike only to have my opponent roll an absurd amount of toughs. Seriously like, over more than 20 tough checks i think my opponent only failed twice. thats the one and only time i was ever mauled by RNG so badly i conceded due to tilt because my opponent high rolled their counter turn and did incredible damage I had the opposite once--playing pirates, I missed something like 25 tough rolls (the first few on a 4+) in almost unbroken sequence. At first it was funny, then it was horrifying.....then it became funny again. I just assume the Tough ability doesn't exist on my infantry when I'm building a list because all it seems to do is maybe save one or two irrelevant guys after the unit has been wiped out. There was another one where my entire army attacked a Conquest, capped with the Galleon charging in. In the end, I've got it down to 3 boxes, so I just need to roll a 3 with my last PS21 attack for a guaranteed kill, aaaaand you can guess what happened next. And Of Course, it was left with one box of arm and one box of cortex, and it was controlled by Butcher1 with feat ready.

Warhammer fantasy: I was playing Warriors of Chaos against Orcs & Goblins and it was a bit into 8th ed, so I was staring at a gigantic blob of goblins. Like 100, with a couple of heroes with great weapons in front., behind it was some artillery, because space issues.
I cast Pandaemonium (Irresistable force, he can't use his character's Leadership: Goblins have shit Ld) Hellcannon shoots dead in the centre, deviates only 2 inches -which is firmly in considering the unit is 20cm wide and long-.
He fails his Leadership, has to run; 3 inches. Whew, that was close. Still on the t-
Wait, you can't stop on friendly units so you have to run through, hitting the table and bye-bye. That was effectively the game just there, his entire flank gone, and with the characters it was a non-negligible investment in points.

All of these were in MkII:
My first game against Cryx: I spent the entire game trying to kill one unit of Banes. They kept rolling Tough rolls, meanwhile Tartarsauce scared my Nyss into uselessness then killed most of the unit himself.
My second game against Cryx: I ran three jacks forwards with all the focus I could give them to try to kill his Satyxis. Killed a bunch, then on his turn 2 the rest of the unit just ran forwards and one-shot my caster.
Once I had pSorscha freeze pXersis, charge in, and whiff all her damage rolls. I then shot at him with everything I had. I think I did like 2 damage total - he had two transfers which he didn't even bother to use. Then he splat her with a single hit.
Another time I charged my Spriggan at a Bronzeback, forgetting it had Admonition. Not only did it walk away, it was able to get range on Beast 09. Next turn I lose Beast 09, the Spriggan, and his warlock moves up in safety to pop a feat that stops me from using any focus while simultaneously scoring. I couldn't see a single way to achieve anything at that point, so I just conceded.

My Angelius was my opponent's MVP last game.
I, being a bad Legion player, decided not to boost the armor pierce attack on a Stormwall and of course rolled Snakeyes. This in turn left the Stormwall (who had been damaged by the Throne) standing. Next turn, Haley turns the angelius around and the Stormwall doesn't quite beat up the Throne, leaving it on two boxes. I reave all but one fury off my Angelius, who still frenzies, and rolls the 8 he needs to kill my own throne.
I actually laughed my ass off when that happened, but still, ouch.

My game this saturday night nearly made me want to quit warmachine. My opponent made 8 tough checks in a row, then when I sent my hammersmith under Maddox's feat into his collossal, I missed on snake eyes and rolled snake eyes. I had a fully-loaded stormclad go into some forge guard under Maddox's feat and with its five attacks and four e-leaps, it killed one of them. One.
Additionally, I rolled nearly every damage roll at exactly 0 damage. Dice minus four, I roll a four. Dice minus eight, I roll an eight. Infuriating. I actually started calling my rolls correctly after a while. The dice gods cursed me.
