Would moving to "in melee" still be too complex? It reduces the counterplay less, but simplifies substantially.

The biggest issue I have found with unyielding is things like gunfighter/Dual attack and spells ignore it now.
If your opponent has to deal with you the old fashioned way, then it’s great.

Likewise. That and in the cryx theme that gives all the jacks carapace, the bone jacks would take free strikes like Khador jacks, and the heavies would giggle at basically everything. I realize the only way that masses of models get both rules is to play one caster (gaspy2, iirc) in Black industries, but having a universal+2 arm and another+2 against shooting and+4 against free strikes sounds meta breaking to me. The only thing those jacks aren't buffed against is magic!

Carapace from Black industried only apply to heavies. not lights.

Carapace from Black industried only apply to heavies. not lights. And ARM 21 or 22 still gets hurt by PS 18 or 19, especially on a free strike.
