THat is some pretty good jank that Skorne has if they get the right scenario (aka one that allows them to park Makeda or the Gladiator back in a scoring zone, jam you with the ferox(es) and then simply win. Struggled and I had one of our faster lists (Hark) (though once again I got way too cute with the repo cloud wall) and one that can do things that Hurt Makeda's healing stuff (kodiaks). . Interested in hearing if others have a drop they "like". Obviously Butcher 3 is a near hard counter but interested in anything others have found that they like.

Doesn't the cloud trick not work at all vs Cats? They walk and jump father than they charge, so seems like doing something else with the Kodiaks would have been better.
Haven't played vs Skorne in SR2017, specially not the theme version.
I don't think it's one of those lists that you have to tech for though, just be aware of its tricks. She has a 12 inch control, she can't keep you out of all the zones, force her to spread and she shouldn't be able to keep all her cats safe.

Though he also had Molik Karn ;-) But definately the kodiaks far better just getting up the bloody field on the feat turn than doing repo crap.

It's easy to get carried away with the repo game but at a certain point you should be going "screw it, have fun seeing me, specifically, enjoy seeing the fists and axes up close."
Another hard counter is Sorscha1 by the way. Cavalry doesn't like sticking around.

I've had success into it with Irusk2 in Jaws of the Wolf. As long as you have a decent amount of assassins and widowmakers (I had min. assassins, double eliminators, widowmakers and marksman). You have the accuracy to hit them reliably, plus the ability to ignore tough which means the strain is very quickly put on Makeda for keeping the cats alive. I also played min. kossites to ambush on and start shooting solos/beast handlers that she wants to keep alive, so she runs out of fury for the cats very quickly.
Cheers, Dave

I feel I had the same problem during my last game.
I played my Harkevich list and I was going up against a Doomy2 list. It was my first game against Hordes (and thus Trolls and Doomy2). Apart from being surprised by how much damage beasts can put out (Mauler and Mulk - ouch!), his "walk and engage" range was farther than my charge ranges (Doomy's feat, Axer's animus, Hunter's Mark from that solo woman).
He got first turn (fail 1) and I also accidentally deployed Hark behind my line of jacks (fail 2), making me unable to move up my caster first turn (it was either that or not cast mobility before moving my jacks out of the way).
Going second is always less ideal with Hark anyway(I feel) and against such a fast army, you can't get in more than one turn of "trample, pop smoke, repo back". I tried it in my second turn but it didn't gain me any board space and set me up badly against his long threat ranges. There's a couple things I could have done:
1) Not deploy Hark behind my lines. If I hadn't done that, I could have moved him up further on my second turn and, instead of doing the failed second turn trample/pop/repo, I could have potentially ran up my Jacks and pop feat instead.
2) Like Sand20go said "forget about that repo crap" and just focus on piece trade instead. I have 3-4 more jacks than he did heavy beasts. I'm so focused on the smoke trick with this list that I probably screw up other more viable strategies.

Doesn't Hunter's Mark only give you a speed boost when charging?

Skorne player here. I'm going to commit treason here and give away the secrets to killing cats. What do you need? Well, nothing specific really. You do need a decent amount of reasonably accurate attacks. The rest is optional.
What should you bring? Well any of the following will help: 1) Of course Grievous Wounds is king. But seeing as it is rather rare, other tech will have to do. 2) Kayazi Eliminators are unreasonably good into cats. 3) Anything with a hit buff. 4) Arcing fire. Behemoth is pretty boss in that matchup.
What should you do? 1) Force her to spread out. Stay Death is 10". If she has to cover the edges of all zones, she'll have to play very far up and she really hates that. Kill eventual Archidons asap. 2) Threaten her personally. If she has to fear for her life, she won't Stay as many Deaths. 3) Kill her beasts. She will usually only bring about 26-30p of them and getting rid of that should be somewhat easy. Make sure to focus them before or after going for Cats. You really don't want to give her more than 6 Fury in a turn. 4) Either go for Infantry hard, or don't do it at all. If you can only get about <10 killing attacks onto Cats in a single turn, don't bother. Let her beasts frenzy instead. If you're going in, go in with everything. You want as big a turn as you can get. Being consistent is not as important if you can get one huge turn. 5) Don't let her deny a flank. If any of your pieces are prevented from doing work in the crucial 1-2 turns, that can break the game.
I hope it helps. Good hunting.

Much as I hate to say it, I find my go-to Butcher 3 Jack Spam list tends to do wonders against Makeda and the kitty cats. My general thinking on the matter is that the Kats are not outstanding into armor, and her list includes enough MAT fixes (as do the cats themselvesish) that she ends up with some pretty rough decisions to make about whether or not to engage the blob of jacks if they can't break them. It's really hard to get enough cats on to Butcher to kill him in my experience as well (On both sides of this equation, I am a dabble as a spy in the Skorne ranks >_> though I only own one unit of cats)
When someone puts as much of their points into hard to hide large base warrior models as this list tends to... I tend to think Sorscha 1 is a good play into it as well. Having the cats effectively shut off for a turn can really put a damper on a Makeda 2 player's game. As Zich mentioned, she has to play forward in order to keep them in her stay death bubble... so she has some interesting choices to make into a Sorscha list.

Sorscha1 doesn't put them out of play for one turn, she puts both out of play for a turn, then one gets deleted and the other never ever does something again. It's a hard counter and might be enough for the Skorne player to _not_ drop that list if he/she sees it.
